Giants vs. Patriots: Predicting 4 Players Who Could Be the Next David Tyree

Ryan AlfieriJun 7, 2018

You never know who will be the next "David Tyree," which is a player that arises from the ranks of the unknown to immortality with a clutch play to seal their team a championship.

Both of these teams, the New York Giants and New England Patriots, are ripe with players that have the potential to have the same impact Tyree had just four years ago. Here are four players between these two teams that have the best chance to be the next Tyree.

Jake Ballard

1 of 4

Jake Ballard isn't the most talented of tight ends, but the man has made a ton of clutch catches all season long, including a few great grabs against the Patriots in their regular-season matchup.

There is a lot of talk about how the Patriots can possibly contain the Giants' passing attack with their talented wide receivers, but don't be surprised if Ballard ends up being the guy who makes a clutch play.

Danny Woodhead

2 of 4

More known for his Hard Knocks appearance than his on-field accomplishments, Woodhead took that hard road coming into the NFL, as he was cut by the Jets after trying to make the team as an undrafted free agent.

What better way to come full circle with his unique story than with a clutch play in the Super Bowl to reward the team that gave him a second opportunity to play?

Mario Manningham

3 of 4

Since the emergence of Victor Cruz, Manningham's production and role in the Giants offense has taken a nosedive.

Mario is still a very talented player and has made a lot of big plays for the Giants in the past, including a great catch in the NFC Championship Game. With all of the attention going to Cruz and Nicks, Manningham is going to get his opportunities to make big plays.

Chad Ochocinco

It sure has been an odd week for Ochocinco; he has finally made it to the Super Bowl, but his role on the team this season has been so minimal that the whole experience must taste bittersweet.

However, since the Pats unmercifully cut receiver Tiquan Underwood just hours before the game, Ochocinco has a good chance of being active. With all that Chad has endured all season long, he can redeem himself with just one Tyree-esque catch.
