Liverpool FC: A Starting Lineup to Hand Defeat to Tottenham Hotspur

Jake RoddJun 7, 2018

Following a hugely unexpected but positive result at Stamford Bridge, Liverpool will look to leap-frog Arsenal and come within two points of fourth-placed Chelsea with a win at Anfield at the expense of Harry Redknapp's Tottenham Hotspur.

It's fair to say that if Liverpool fail to pick up three points, their Champions League chances will be over. A win is vital. However, that win is also very possible.

Liverpool welcome back Luis Suarez, Steven Gerrard and Stewart Downing for this game, and here is the lineup I would choose.

GK: Pepe Reina

RB: Martin Kelly

CBs: Daniel Agger and Martin Skrtel

LB: Jose Enrique

CDM: Steven Gerrard

CDM: Jay Spearing

RAM: Stewart Downing

CAM: Luis Suarez

LAM: Craig Bellamy

ST: Andy Carroll

This one is simple for me, we need five men in midfield. Jay Spearing and Steven Gerrard will be given the task of muting Tottenham's vast array of attacking talent. The latter will be given the license for  his trademark "bomb-ons," of course.

The back four is standard, barring Kelly being preferred to Johnson, as seems to be a habit in bigger games. He has a better chance (albeit slim) of muting Gareth Bale completely, should he play.

Up front, Downing and Bellamy may switch but will provide flair and pace on the flanks while Suarez links up with everyone around him, playing in a free role. That's where he is at his best.

Dirk Kuyt may be preferred to Carroll, but I have a feeling about the big lad tomorrow, I think he can snatch a brace. So, here's the line-up.

---------------------------------------------------------Reina----------------------------------------------------------

--------Kelly--------------------------Skrtel----------------------Agger-----------------------JE----------------

-----------------------------------------  Gerrard----------- Spearing---------------------------------------------

-----Downing-------------------------------------Suarez----------------------------------Bellamy---------

----------------------------------------------------- Carroll---------------------------------------------------------

There we have it. Of course, Suarez and Carroll may play up top in a 4-4-2 but the difference is minimal. Henderson may replace either Gerrard or Spearing, and Kuyt will play at some point.

What do you guys think?

A prediction? 3-1 to the Reds. I've got a really good feeling about this one.
