UFC 143 Results: Georges St-Pierre Gets Advantage Knowing His Next Opponent
While Georges St-Pierre rehabs his ACL injury, he will be getting some early scouting done on his next opponent. That is because the result of the fight between Nick Diaz and Carlos Condit at UFC 143 will decide his next challenger for the welterweight title.
GSP has not lost in his last nine matches, and it remains to be seen if either of these fighters will be able to take him down. Five of his last six victories have come in Round 5 via unanimous decision. It will remain to be seen if either of these fighters can go the distance with GSP.
While he doesn't really need an advantage going in, St. Pierre is really getting a gift by being able to watch and scout his potential opponents way before he otherwise have known who he was going to be fighting.
Considering the severity of his injury, he can start training as soon as possible to be able to utilize his strengths, while also building a repertoire of moves that could work against his next challenger.
St. Pierre hasn't fought in the UFC since April of 2011, so he will have a lot of ground to make up on his return. Not that he needs to, but he can really build his game from the ground up based on what he has seen in this match.
It will be interesting to see where GSP goes from here, but he definitely has gained an upper hand by having an idea of what lies ahead of him in the future.
