Peyton Manning Rumors: Recapping All the Latest Buzz

Ryan PhillipsJun 4, 2018

News concerning the future of Indianapolis Colts quarterback Peyton Manning has been shifting every day, with rumors of his imminent departure from the Circle City and potential destinations running wild. While there is no firm news on where Manning will be playing next season, here is a roundup of all the latest buzz surrounding the four-time MVP.

On Thursday evening news broke that Manning had been medically cleared to resume his NFL career by two doctors. Almost immediately Colts owner Jim Irsay took to his infamous Twitter account and stated that Manning hadn't been cleared by the franchise's doctors and that he had yet to pass the team's physical.

For months now Irsay has claimed that if Manning is healthy, he will be back in Indianapolis. This latest Twitter statement seems to be his way of weaseling out of that statement. He could always influence the Colts' doctors not to clear Manning, and therefore could justify cutting the 35-year-old and theoretically keep his word.

With how much the Irsay-Manning relationship has deteriorated I really don't believe they can co-exist much longer. Therefore, it's probably time to look at the 11-time Pro Bowler's potential destinations.

Today a report surfaced that claims that the Miami Dolphins are on the quarterback's short list of teams. While Matt Moore had a surprisingly good season in 2011, Miami is definitely looking for a more solid option for the future. While Manning may be older, he could provide a few years worth of stability while the franchise looked for a long-term solution to develop under him.

There has been a lot of buzz that the New York Jets could have interest in Manning, but I don't think the Jets are ready to end the Mark Sanchez experiment yet. Head coach Rex Ryan and general manager Mike Tannenbaum have backed their young signal-caller, and I don't see them changing course all of a sudden.

Another team with possible interest is the Arizona Cardinals, as they have until March 17 to make a decision on Kevin Kolb's bonus. I would have to believe that if the Cardinals cut Kolb they would have to be considered a front-runner for Manning's services. You know he'd love to play with a stud receiver like Larry Fitzgerald

The Cleveland Browns have also been mentioned as a possible destination because of the franchise's disappointment in the lack of development from Colt McCoy. But frankly, I don't see Manning going there, since he'll have other, better options.

That's the latest buzz surrounding Manning's future. I'm sure things will change shortly after the Super Bowl as more news comes out. But for now it looks like the long-time face of the Colts' franchise will be playing elsewhere next season.
