Budweiser Super Bowl Commercial: Bud Uses Ad to Show Beauty of Sports

Budweiser is known as the king of beer, but they are also pretty dang good at making commercials, and their latest Super Bowl ad is a testament to that.

The premise of the commercial is one of a flash mob, but theirs is centered around two rec league hockey teams being surprised by a mob of "flash fans" entering the arena to cheer them on.

Essentially what they did was simulate the atmosphere of a professional hockey game: the cheering fans, mascot shooting t-shirts into the stands, the instant replay and the announcers—the whole nine yards.

The catch was that they told these two teams that they were just shooting a documentary on rec league hockey, so they were utterly surprised and shocked when the atmosphere of their pickup game turned into what probably felt like Hockey Night In Canada.

The big debate around this commercial is regarding whether or not it is real.

Many people feel that the whole thing was staged, and of course they have good reason to believe that. The optimists among us would like to believe that the flash mob of fans was actually real, and that these hockey players were essentially able to live the dream for a few moments.

Personally, I want to believe that it's real, but I'm not sure that I can. I'm also not sure that's really what matters though.

This commercial is incredible to me, fake or real.

What it does so wonderfully is remind us of the beauty of sports, the real reason we watch. If you're reading this chances are you know what I'm talking about.

I love holding on to the hope that somewhere beneath all the money, endorsements, politics and scandals there is something pure that we all know and love.

There's something about being in the stands and cheering on your team—becoming best friends with perfect strangers around you whenever you have something to cheer about.

There's something so brilliantly pure about just competing for the heck of it, and enjoying every minute out on the field of play.

They call that the love of the game, and that's something that we seem to lose sight of from time to time.

Real or fake, hopefully this commercial is a good reminder of why you love sports.
