Super Bowl 2012: 4 Keys to Victory for the New York Giants

Nathan LoweryJun 7, 2018

It's Super Saturday which means we have just a little over 24 hours until the big game kicks off.

This will be a rematch of Super Bowl XLII, and the Giants hope to once again shock the football world and defeat the New England Patriots.

Doing so, however, will not be easy.

Here are four keys to victory for the New York Giants; New England Patriots version to come soon.

Get to Tom Brady

1 of 4

With a pass rush featuring Jason Pierre-Paul, Chris Canty, Osi Umenyoria and Justin Tuck, New York has a surplus of talent and depth along the defensive line.

A major reason why they beat the Patriots the last time around was that they were able to put pressure on Tom Brady and force sacks.

If they can do the same this time, then their odds of winning skyrocket.

Focus on the Passing Game

2 of 4

Yes, the Giants have a stout rushing attack with Ahmad Bradshaw and Brandon Jacobs, but establishing a run game in this Super Bowl would be foolish.

With Vince Wilfork and Jerrod Mayo causing havoc up the middle, Jacobs and Bradshaw will be shut down in the ground game.

Eli Manning is going to have to realize that he is responsible for moving the chains through the air by getting the ball to Jake Ballard, Mario Manningham, Hakeem Nicks and Victor Cruz.

Avoid Turnovers

3 of 4

It is widely know that Eli Manning is an inconsistent quarterback, but he can't be in this game.

New York fans will have to hope that he continues his playoff success in the Super Bowl because, if he turns the ball over, the Giants are in for one rough night.

Excel on Special Teams

4 of 4

New York combined for 1209 yards on kickoff returns this season and will have to re-create that magic in the Super Bowl.

If the Giants can get good field position on the kickoff, then that is less field that Manning has to chip through to get into the end zone.

If the Giants can force fumbles on returns, like they did against San Francisco in the NFC Championship Game, then they can practically seal the game.
