UFC 143 Fight Card: What Nick Diaz Has to Do to Defeat Carlos Condit

Nick Diaz has the chance to move one step further to a potential title bout with current champion Georges St-Pierre, but Carlos Condit is standing in front of him.

In the main event at UFC 143, Diaz and Condit will meet in a five-round affair that is likely to see its fair share of momentum from both competitors. While Condit might hold a slight advantage over Diaz as an overall striker, the Stockton, California native tends to neutralize his opponent's skills as the fight goes on.

Diaz is such an effective boxer with his hands, as he moves forward to apply pressure and swarm on his opponent with well-timed, technical strikes. He is also a rangy fighter who can establish distance very well and counter his oppponent's moves.

At UFC 143, Diaz is likely going to have keep his distance from Condit to figure out his opponent's range and timing. Blessed with a great chin and superior cardio, it isn't likely that Diaz will wilt under Condit's attack, no matter how much pressure the Greg Jackson MMA product is able to apply.

As the bout continues, Diaz will want to pick his shots and start to throw combinations at such high volume with as much precision as possible. And if he is also able to throw his strikes while closing the distance and trapping Condit near the cage, he'll effectively neutralize his opponent's offense and limit his attack.

As the fight approaches the championship rounds, Diaz should start to apply pressure on Condit and land multiple combinations with more volume and more accuracy. At that point, Condit's cardio could be drained.

If Diaz is able to establish distance early and figure out Condit's timing, he'll be able to easily outpoint his opponent as the bout goes on, allowing him to pick up the unanimous decision victory.
