WWE Elimination Chamber 2012: WWE Needs to Bring Back WCW's War Games Match

Chris HumphreyMay 31, 2018

Following the debut during the 2002 Survivor Series, the fans of the WWE have been witness to 13 different Elimination Chamber matches with the WWE and World Heavyweight Championships on the line over the years.

While all of those matches involved six individuals, what if a future Chamber match was held in teams like the War Games matches from the old WCW instead of the current format?

When then-Raw general manager and former WCW president Eric Bischoff thought up the idea of the Elimination Chamber, Bischoff actually designed the match from the idea of WCW’s War Games match mixed with the WWE’s Royal Rumble and Survivor Series elimination matches.

In the current rules setup for an Elimination Chamber match, two superstars begin the match with a new one entering every five minutes until all four are released from their pods and the last man standing is declared the winner of the match.

As the traditional Elimination Chamber consists of six superstars, my version of a War Games inspired Chamber match would be made up of two teams of four with two superstars from each team starting the match instead of just the two that we have now.

The rules for superstars being released from their pod will remain the same as they are in the current format of the Elimination Chamber in the WWE.

To take a page from WCW, a match between two opposing team members would be held before the event to determine which team will get an advantage during the Chamber match when a new superstar is released from a pod.

After all eight superstars are released from their pod to join the match; eliminations would then be able to occur only by submission until all four members of one team are eliminated to declare the winner of the match.

For the final remaining member of the winning team, the superstar will receive a championship match of their choosing at the Survivor Series in November just like the winner of the Royal Rumble gets to choose who they face at WrestleMania.

So Bleachers, do you think we’ll ever see anything like I described in the WWE in the future?
