Super Bowl Halftime Show 2012: Madonna's Copycat Dance Will Curse Victor Cruz

Ryan RudnanskyJun 7, 2018

Imagine you're New York Giants receiver Victor Cruz.

You racked up over 1,500 receiving yards and nine touchdowns in the regular season and you just went off for 142 yards against the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Championship.

Obviously, you're feeling pretty good.

Now imagine the Super Bowl's halftime singer, who happens to be Madonna, comes out of nowhere and imitates your salsa touchdown dance at a press conference.

Yep, you've just been cursed.

It's bad enough that Madonna, 53, is singing at the upcoming Super Bowl XLVI halftime show. If I wanted to see an old pop star sing, I'd watch a rerun of Cyndi Lauper in Celebrity Apprentice.

But when she tried to imitate Cruz's salsa dance on Thursday, she tainted his signature dance forever.

You see, apparently Madonna is a big Victor Cruz fan.

Said Madonna at the press conference, via the New York Post, "He inspired me. I’ve been practicing. Do you think he would approve?"

So, let me get this straight, Madonna is the celebrity rooting for the Giants while Gisele Bundchen is the celebrity rooting for the New England Patriots?

If I were the Giants, I'd be worried.

It's very possible that Cruz could have a good first half on Sunday, only to watch Madonna's copycat dance at halftime and completely lose his swagger. I'm guessing he'll have 100 yards at halftime and negative-16 yards after the half.

There's also the possibility of Cruz scoring a touchdown, only to watch in horror as fans hold up Madonna signs while he does his salsa dance.

The Giants were my favorite to beat the Patriots before this news, but right now I'm reconsidering.

The Giants could very well be doomed.
