When it comes to dressing your players for the upcoming week—especially your goalies—it is important to know which team is on a long road trip and which team will enjoy an extended period at home.
Listed below are the teams that play at least three home/away games this week, or play all their games at home or on the road (home/road records through February 3, 2012):
HOME: Buffalo (11-9-6), Columbus (8-13-3), Detroit (20-2-1), New York I (11-11-4), New York R (15-5-2), Ottawa (14-9-1), Philadelphia (12-7-4) and Phoenix (10-10-4)
AWAY: Calgary (10-14-4), Carolina (6-13-6), Chicago (10-10-3), Edmonton (6-18-2), Florida (11-10-4), Los Angeles (10-5-6), Tampa Bay (8-16-3) and Vancouver (16-9-1)
If you participate in any type of head-to-head hockey pool, you are likely dressing a lineup for each scoring period, which usually ends on Sunday.
As the week comes to an end and you find yourself in a close battle for those wins, you want as many players as possible playing for you.
Here are the teams that play on Sunday (February 12, 2012):
SUNDAY: Anaheim, Columbus, Dallas, Detroit, Florida, Los Angeles, New York I, New York R, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, San Jose, St. Louis, Tampa Bay and Washington
When you are deciding which goalie to dress, you need to look at the NHL schedule to see if your goalie's team will play in a back-to-back game that week.
Most coaches will not dress the same goalie in back-to-back games, so that is something to consider when you are thinking about which goalie to dress.
Here are the teams that play in back-to-back games this week:
BACK-TO-BACK: Buffalo, Calgary, Chicago, Colorado, Columbus, Dallas, Florida, Los Angeles, New York I, New York R, Philadelphia, Phoenix, St. Louis, Tampa Bay and Toronto
Knowing which team is on a hot streak or cold streak will help in making your lineup decisions.
For example, you definitely want to dress a goalie from teams that are on a hot streak. Here are the Top 5 and Bottom 5 teams over their last 10 games, through February 3, 2012:
TOP 5: Detroit (9-1-0), Nashville (8-2-0), Pittsburgh (8-2-0), St. Louis (7-1-2) and Anaheim (7-2-1)
BOTTOM 5: Columbus (2-7-1), Dallas (3-6-1), Colorado (3-6-1), Buffalo (3-6-1) and Montreal (3-5-2)
Fantasy hockey is all about offense, and what better place to generate offense than the power play? Here are the Top 5 power play teams through February 3, 2012:
- Vancouver Canucks: 22.9 percent
- Nashville Predators: 21.8 percent
- Edmonton Oilers: 21.4 percent
- Philadelphia Flyers: 20.9 percent
- New York Islanders: 20.3 percent
