2012 NFL Draft: 5 Teams That Should Trade Down
As the NFL season comes to a close this weekend, all eyes will turn to the NFL draft, arguably the most popular event in sports.
This year's draft has so much intrigue at the top. Who's know what's going to happen aside from the Colts taking Andrew Luck.
With that said, here are five teams that should be trading down depending on how the draft shakes out, with almost all of these moves centered around Robert Griffin. I think you may be surprised at one team that makes the list. Please read on.
Miami Dolphins
1 of 5This revolves around the idea that Miami can't make a trade to get into the top three to select Robert Griffin.
Matt Moore played very well at times, but it's clear that he isn't the future.
The Dolphins will be looking for a quarterback early, and if they can't get up to the top three, they can trade down a few spots and take Ryan Tannehill or Nick Foles.
Washington Redskins
2 of 5Again, this depends on how the team plans to address the quarterback position. Rex Grossman didn't get it done, so the Redskins will have a new quarterback under center to start the season.
Do they want to go up to get Robert Griffin? Look for Matt Flynn in free agency? Select one of the second-tier quarterbacks in the second round?
The draft is deep enough that the Redskins could trade back a few spots and get a playmaker like Alshon Jeffery or Michael Floyd.
St. Louis Rams
3 of 5The Rams need to draft Justin Blackmon, but the second overall pick being used on a wide receiver may not be good value. That said, Matt Kalil could be a Pro Bowler for the next decade, and that would really help Sam Bradford.
However, I still think Blackmon is the guy right now, so watch for Miami and Washington to try and get that second spot. The Rams will want to stay in the top five because Blackmon won't last past five.
Cleveland Browns
4 of 5Robert Griffin to the Browns is gaining steam.
But what if the Browns decide that they want to give Colt McCoy one more year to show something? In that scenario, the Browns could use multiple picks to address their offense if they trade down for a team that really wants that coveted player.
They could turn the fourth pick in the draft into Trent Richardson and Kendall Wright. Give McCoy some new weapons and see if he can get it done. If not, Logan Thomas and possibly Matt Barkley could be there for the Browns to draft next year.
Indianapolis Colts
5 of 5To a lot of people, this is going to sound crazy. You have the opportunity to draft the greatest quarterback prospect since Clinton was still the President and you pass that up?
Andrew Luck probably will be a great player for a long time in the NFL, but to play devil's advocate, what if by chance he doesn't end up being as good as predicted? Or what if he suffers a devastating injury and the Colts have to draft another quarterback in 2015?
The Colts could get a king's ransom, maybe the biggest coup in the history of the draft, by trading the first pick and could shore up multiple areas of their team. The Colts should consider this, even if only for a split second.
