Liverpool Summer Transfer Rumours: 10 Potential Summer Moves for the Reds

Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish has a tough task on his hand to help them finish in the Champions League places this season and it will be important for them to attract players to join the club. Liverpool are currently sixth in the table but they will have belief having beaten Manchester United and Manchester City in the FA Cup and Carling Cup ties recently. They do remain a quality side but need to be more consistent in order to finish above the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea at the end of the season.

The new owners do have a long term plan for the club and have shown that they are prepared to invest in quality young players like Luis Suarez and Jordan Henderson. Though there was not much transfer activity for Liverpool in this January transfer window, they would have surely been working on some of the transfer targets for the summer as well. They have been linked with many good players in the last few months, and here are some of them who could be targeted by the Reds in the summer.

Eden Hazard (Lille)

Liverpool have shown ambition in the last year by signing many young and talented players who have added more quality to the side. They have also been linked with a move for Lille midfielder Eden Hazard, who is one of the best young players in the world. The Belgian international has impressed for the French side, helping them win the French league title in the previous season. The new owners of Liverpool have shown that they are prepared to invest big in the right player and Hazard could be a great addition to the side.

According to Goal.com, Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United have also shown interested in him and the Reds will have stiff competition from these clubs as well as some other top European clubs. Hazard would provide more creativity to the team and also offer a goal-scoring threat from midfield. It could be a huge coup for the Reds if they do sign him. 

Xherdan Shaqiri (FC Basel)

Xherdan Shaqiri is one of the best young midfielders in the world and he has impressed greatly for FC Basel. The Switzerland international has good dribbling skills and has the capability to score superb goals as well. He was one of the best players for Basel when they knocked out Manchester United from the Champions League this season and has the ability to cope with the physicality of the Premiership. He has attracted plenty of interest from many clubs around the world, but as of now he is still a Basel player.

Liverpool and Manchester United have been linked with a move for the midfielder, and it could be an intelligent move for the Reds to sign him. Basel will be reluctant to sell him and are likely to demand a high price for the midfielder. It depends on whether Liverpool are prepared to convince Shaqiri of their ambitions and are prepared to meet Basel's evaluation of the player.

Lukas Podolski (FC Cologne)

Lukas Podolski is one of the best strikers in Germany and has been very prolific for FC Cologne this season scoring plenty of goals. He can play as a centre forward and is also comfortable on the flanks where he plays for the national side. Though he was linked with Liverpool in January, a move failed to materialize. A move for the striker is possible once the Euro tournament finishes in the summer and there could be many clubs interested in him.

He could be a very good signing for the Reds because he has the quality to be excellent and also, he will provide quality depth to the team. In a team that favours attacking football such as Liverpool, he could be a successful. Podolski is likely to attract the attention of many top clubs in the world, and it will be a great move if they can beat the competition to sign him.

Marko Marin (Werder Bremen)

Werder Bremen midfielder Marko Marin has been linked with a move to Liverpool in the past and it could be a good move for both the club and the player. Marin is very talented and can play in a number of positions which will provide quality depth to the side. The German international is undoubtedly very talented but has been inconsistent in the past. However, he is still quite young and can still develop into a very good midfielder.

Kenny Dalglish is a very good manager who has been involved in the development of several players and it could be an astute move to sign the German winger. Marin could also benefit from a change of environment and there is every chance that he will be a success in the Premiership if he is signed by Liverpool.

Milos Krasic (Juventus)

Juventus midfielder Milos Krasic is a very talented footballer who was signed by the Italian club in 2010 and the Serbian international played a number of games for the side in his first season. However, Krasic has not played regularly since the appointment of Antonio Conte and it was a mild surprise that he did not move in the January transfer window. 

However, it is possible that he could move in the summer and he has been linked with a move to Liverpool in the past. It could be a good move for the Reds considering that he is experienced and will provide good quality to the team. He will add creativity and also deliver good crosses which can be utilized by Andy Carroll and the rest of the strikers.

Fabricio Coloccini (Newcastle United)

Fabricio Coloccini has been one of the best defenders in the Premiership this season and has been very consistent for Newcastle United this season. He is technically good on the ball and is also very good with dealing with the aerial threat. He has shown good leadership at the back and will help in the organization of the defence. He could be a good addition for almost any team in the Premier League and could be targeted for a summer move by some clubs.  

Liverpool has been linked with a move for the Newcastle United centre back and could be targeted for a summer move. With Jamie Carragher clearly past his best, Coloccini could be a good replacement for the future and will not take any time to adjust to the physicality of the league. Newcastle will be reluctant to sell the defender but they could sell him if the right offer is made by the Reds. 

Christopher Samba (Blackburn)

Christopher Samba is one of the most solid defenders in the Premiership and has been tracked by some clubs in the league. The Blackburn defender has been linked with a move away but Blackburn managed to hold on to the strong defender. If Blackburn get relegated, then it is certain that he will move away but even if they do survive this season, they could still be forced to sell Samba. The experienced defender is very strong in the air and his anticipation is quite good.

He can be very useful to any team if signed which is why Liverpool are interested in signing him. He could help them at the back especially at set-pieces and also, will not take any time to adjust to the Premiership. He could be an astute signing by Dalglish if available at the right price and they will hope that they can persuade Blackburn to sell the defender.

Carlos Tevez (Manchester City)

Manchester City's Carlos Tevez is one of the best strikers in the world but has not played for City in the last few months. Though Tevez has been problematic for some clubs in the past, there is absolutely no doubt in his ability and he can be a key player for any club if he is in the right frame of mind. Tevez has had troubles at Manchester City and is very likely to depart in the summer having played extremely less amount of time for City this season.

Liverpool have had problems scoring goals with Andy Carroll in particular not adjusting immediately since he signed for a big transfer fee from Newcastle United. According to the Guardian, Manchester City had rejected a swap deal between Andy Carroll and Carlos Tevez in the January transfer window, but it is possible that Tevez could again be targeted in the summer.

Demba Ba (Newcastle United)

Newcastle United are currently in fifth place even ahead of Liverpool currently and they have performed superbly this season under Alan Pardew. Demba Ba, who was signed in the summer, has proven to be one of the best signings this season and has been very prolific for Newcastle United. His movement and clinical finishing has made him difficult to mark for defenders and is currently the second top scorer in the league only behind Robin van Persie.

Luis Suarez has been superb since joining Liverpool, but the same cannot be said of Carroll, who has been inconsistent. Ba could prove to be an excellent partner for Suarez and will probably get more chances to score in an attack-minded team like Liverpool. There will be many clubs who will be interested in Ba, and Liverpool will have to beat the competition to sign him.

Luuk De Jong (Twente)

Luuk de Jong is one of the most talented Dutch strikers and has performed very consistently for Twente in recent seasons. The young striker has an all-round game and can further develop into a better striker with more experience. There are many good Dutch strikers like Dirk Kuyt and Van Persie who have shown that they can be successful in the Premiership, and it is possible that Luuk de Jong could do well in the Premiership.

Liverpool could look to sign a striker in the summer and the Reds could possibly target the young forward. The Reds have signed young players who have the potential to be future stars and Luuk de Jong does fit into the category. If the Reds can persuade Twente to sell and seal a deal, then it could be a very intelligent acquisition by the club.
