NFL Draft 2012: Lamar Miller and Late First-Round Picks Destined for Stardom

Eric BallJun 3, 2018

Does the name Lamar Miller ring a bell?

Probably not.

The redshirt sophomore out of Miami (Fla.) went under the radar for the majority of his brief collegiate career because the Hurricanes only made news for their off-the-field issues.

You can’t put the blame on Miller, though.

The 20-year-old registered 1,272 yards and nine TDs in 2011 as one of the most explosive runners in the game. At 5'11" and 212 pounds, he has the ability to bounce off tacklers through the trenches and shoot right past the secondary with his explosive speed.

He has extremely fresh legs and can be a major contributor right away. Teams like the Bengals and Browns have to take a strong look at him with the No. 21 and 22 picks.

Aside from Trent Richardson, Miller is the best running back available in the draft.

Here are two other prospects who are going to make all the teams that passed on them regret it:

Michael Floyd, WR (Notre Dame)

Floyd has plunged to the bottom of Mel Kiper’s latest Big Board, and I don't get it.

Floyd is incredibly versatile, and at 6'3" and 225 pounds, he can out-jump defenders in the end zone. His speed is unbelievable, and he is coming off a year where he registered 100 receptions for 1,147 yards and nine TDs while breaking all sorts of career school records in the process.

Although Floyd did have a few off-the-field issues in the past, he seems to have gotten the message. Plus, he's 21 now, so he can actually drink legally after getting nailed for underage consumption.

Dontari Poe, DT (Memphis)

Rarely does a defensive tackle become a star, but Poe is special. At 6'5" and 350 pounds, he is an immovable object in the trenches and gobbles up any running back who dares run near him. His conditioning is surprisingly strong for a man of his stature, and he rarely takes a play off.

Poe has the potential to be the next Albert Haynesworth, minus the bad attitude. For any team that features a 3-4 defensive scheme, they can draft Poe and secure a potential Pro Bowler for the next decade.
