Norwich City FC: 4 Reasons Why the Canaries Will Bounce Back Against Bolton

James KentJun 2, 2018

Norwich City will be looking to bounce back with a home game against Bolton Wanderers after losing to Sunderland Wednesday night.

There is certainly plenty of room for improvement, but in front of a packed Carrow Road, there is no reason to think the Canaries will not win, especially when playing a Bolton side that has struggled for much of the season.

It will certainly be interesting to see how the East Anglian side reacts.

Paul Lambert Will Freshen the Team Up

1 of 4

There were a number of poor performances Wednesday night against Sunderland, so changes are expected.

Wingers Anthony Pilkington and Elliott Bennett both made a difference when they came on, while David Fox and Simeon Jackson may be in contention for re-calls.

However, with the team conceding three goals in the last game, the big decisions are likely to come at the back. Elliott Ward, Marc Tierney and Adam Drury are all in contention to come back in.

It will also be interesting to see if Paul Lambert can resist the temptation to get James Vaughan involved for the first time since injury.

Lambert usually gets a reaction after a defeat, and he will demand a response from his players in front of the home fans.

Norwich Shade the Head-to-Head Record

2 of 4

The head-to-head record between Bolton and Norwich in league meetings in a tight affair, but the Canaries just shade it. Norwich has 14 wins, Bolton 13 and there has been eight draws.

Norwich City can also boast winning the last time the two sides met earlier in the season, when the game finished 2-1 to the Canaries. These factors should give Lambert's side the confidence it needs to record another big win.

Maintain a Significant Safety Margin

3 of 4

Norwich City may have a safety gap of 11 points between themselves and the bottom three.

However, Lambert is smart enough to know that things change quickly in Premier League football.

Losing can become a habit just like winning can. Therefore, the Norwich City manager will be keen to get back to winning ways and maintain his team's distance from the relegation zone.

A Bolton win on Saturday will result on a few nervous looks at the league table.

This Headed Goals Thing

4 of 4

Grant Holt and Steve Morison are likely to start up front again, and this should allow Norwich to take advantage of a Premier League statistic that is going in their favor. The Canaries have scored the most headed goals.

If Anthony Pilkington or Elliott Bennett start the game, then good service could be provided to increase that tally of headed goals. That together with the defensive stability shown against Chelsea should result in three more points for the Canaries.
