2012 NFL Free Agents: Denver Broncos and Teams in Dire Need of Impact Players

Eric BallMay 31, 2018

With only one game to go, 30 teams in the NFL are already knee-deep in their offseason plans to figure out how they can become the ones getting all of the attention that comes with going to the Super Bowl.

Some teams are closer than others.

Here are three that desperately need a game-breaking running back/receiver to help open up a stale offense.

1. Denver Broncos

Say what you want about the way Tim Tebow throws the ball, but when Eric Decker is your top playmaker, there is certainly room for improvement.  Could they pry away AFC West rivals Dwayne Bowe or Vincent Jackson via free agency? Either player would certainly make Tebow’s life easier.

At running back, I think it’s safe to say that Knowshon Moreno is officially a bust and it would be a small miracle for the 30-year-old Willis McGahee to carry the ball 250 times again.

Could the Broncos go after free agent Marshawn Lynch, Peyton Hillis or Michael Bush? All three would instantly make the No. 1 rushing offense even better. I think Bush would be the best fit because of his versatility as a blocker and pass catcher.

2. Cleveland Browns

The offense is atrocious, and hopefully they settle their quarterback issue in the draft, which means free agency is the way to go for an impact receiver.

With Hillis reportedly back in the good graces of the Browns, the need is at wideout. Greg Little had an okay year in his rookie season, but he was among the league leaders in drops and routinely ran the wrong route. An unscientific way to look at the 2011 Browns offense is the amount of fantasy players they had worth using.

Zero.

They need a burner that can stretch the field, a guy like Marques Colston, DeSean Jackson or Reggie Wayne.

3. Seattle Seahawks

Seattle was short on talent in 2011, and could use a receiver like Laurent Robinson or Brandon Lloyd to add some much needed depth around the injury prone Sidney Rice. Both will be relatively cheap, able to catch 80 passes for 1,000 yards, and make Tarvaris Jackson look like a real QB.

Seattle should also seriously consider re-signing Mr. Beast Mode because backs that can break tackles and burn you with their speed don’t grow on trees.
