Giants vs. Patriots Predictions: Why Tom Brady Will Pull off Another Classic Win

Andrew KulhaJun 7, 2018

Tom Brady and the New England Patriots are going to beat the New York Giants and win the Super Bowl.

Many would contend that the Giants are indeed the better team and that they are the hotter of the two coming into this game, but I firmly believe that Brady and the Patriots have what it takes to beat them.

Let's not forget, this is still Tom Brady we're talking about.

If it wasn't for a miraculous catch by the Giants' David Tyree in Super Bowl XLII, we'd be talking about Brady as a four-time Super Bowl winner trying to win his fifth, mind you.

The guy's one of the all-time greats and there is no disputing that fact, but he's not the only reason the Patriots will win the Super Bowl.

It's worth noting that their defense has been much maligned this season, but they seem to step up when it matters—just like last year's Packers defense.

That being said, we all know Brady and the offense is the true key, and they have what it takes to outduel a good Giants team.

They need to utilize all their personnel to present mismatches.

Offensive Mismatches

Star tight end Rob Gronkowski is most likely going to play, but I can't help but feel he's going to be slowed down a bit by his left ankle injury.

The scary thing is that even a banged-up Gronkowski is a very good tight end, so the Giants are going to have to devote a lot of attention to him.

They're going to have to jam him at the line, make sure one of the linebackers is watching him at all times and I wouldn't be surprised if they have a safety shadowing him as well.

I still don't see the Giants being able to stop him completely. He's just far too good and motivated.

With all the attention going to Gronkowski over the middle, that means the next option will be receiver Wes Welker, who can absolutely torch a defense in the slot or going deep.

The Giants will have to pay just as much attention to Welker, but no matter what he's due for his eight to 10 catches a game.

He's too quick and too good of a route-runner, plus he has fantastic hands.

Tight end Aaron Hernandez will most likely be one of the last priorities for the Giants defense, but you could argue that on any other offense he'd be the No. 2 option at the very least.

What does this mean? I expect Hernandez is going to do a ton of damage against this Giants defense.

He's fast in and out of his cuts and can be an absolute terror for defenses to cover.

Finally, there's the rushing game that features BenJarvus Green-Ellis and Danny Woodhead, who are two very different backs that present two very different problems for the Giants.

Mismatches all over the place.

If the Giants decide to stop one, Brady is excellent at going to his next option. If they decide to focus on stopping the pass, the Patriots will just start going to the run, and vice versa.

Football is won or lost based off of mismatches. The best coaches in the league know how to put their best players in position to succeed, and they know how to manipulate their game plan and the other team to create the favorable matchups for their team.

This offense is built for mismatches, and the Patriots are great at executing them.

Prediction

The Patriots defense should be able to do enough to at the very least slow down Eli Manning and the Giants offense. They have to focus on stopping the running game and getting pressure on Manning.

They held Ray Rice to just 67 yards and got three sacks in the AFC championship game against the Ravens, so I think they have what it takes.

For all the talk about how hot the Giants are and how bad the Patriots defense is, there sure isn't much chatter about the Patriots defense getting hot at the right time as well.

Truth is, they are.

That matched up with the brilliance of Bill Belichick on the sidelines, the experience of Brady and the mismatches the Patriots offense presents will all factor into yet another Patriots Super Bowl win.

I expect it will be close, but "Tom Terrific" has a way of making these things work.
