2012 NFL Draft: Andrew Luck and Other Players Guaranteed to Dominate Right Away

Tim DanielsJun 7, 2018

Every team enters the NFL draft with the hope of selecting a player who will contribute immediately. Only a few succeed, which means the franchises that do will receive a major boost, but it takes a special prospect to make it happen.

Here are three members of the 2012 draft class who will hit the ground running in training camp.

Andrew Luck

Luck is the best quarterback prospect since Peyton Manning, so perhaps it's fitting that it appears he will succeed the record-breaking QB with the Indianapolis Colts. The extra season at Stanford solidified his standing as an elite prospect and future Pro Bowler.

He has everything a team could look for in a young star at the league's marquee position. He's deadly accurate and can make every throw. Perhaps more importantly, he's smart, which is necessary to run an efficient offense at the NFL level. Talent alone isn't good enough anymore.

Projected landing spot: Indianapolis Colts

Justin Blackmon

A.J. Green and Julio Jones illustrated that it's possible for a rookie wide receiver to have a major impact right away despite previous failures. Blackmon has just as much, if not more, talent than both of those playmakers from last year's class.

The Oklahoma State product has separated himself from the rest of the wideout pack thanks to his rare combination of size, speed and hands. He's going to step right into the starting lineup wherever he lands and should start making opposing corners look bad in a heartbeat.

Projected landing spot: St. Louis Rams

Morris Claiborne

There's no doubt that Claiborne is the most talented defensive player on the board. He might have been overshadowed at LSU by Tyrann Mathieu, but his play spoke for itself. Without him, the Tigers don't survive undefeated for as long as they did.

The good thing for cornerbacks like Claiborne is the job doesn't change much at the next level. That should allow him to make a seamless transition. Before long, he'll be considered one of the true shutdown corners in the league.
