Auburn Football Recruiting: Tigers Need Late Signings to Secure Top-10 Class
As they currently stand at Rivals.com, Auburn has the 11th-best recruiting class in the nation. There are a whole lot of schools below them that wish they could say the same.
And that's all fine and dandy, but Alabama is currently sitting at No. 1, something Auburn fans are probably lamenting right about now.
Fret not, Auburn faithful—you aren't done just yet, at least according to head coach Gene Chizik, and there are a few recruits out there that would shoot you into the top 10. From Charles Goldberg at AL.com:
""Our recruiting class is hopefully not complete. We're extremely happy about the 20 we got. It's been a great day for Auburn," Chizik said in an afternoon press conference.
The Tigers missed on some of the four- and five-star players they wanted Wednesday, but he said "we're extremely excited" about the players in the class. Auburn will try to persuade unsigned receiver Stefon Diggs, offensive lineman Jordan Diamond and a few others to sign with the Tigers.
"
Stefon Diggs is a 5-star receiver and a fantastic athlete. Consider his contributions during his senior season of high school at Good Counsel in Maryland (from the Washington Post):
"At cornerback, he was seventh on the team with 31.5 tackles (5.5 for losses), intercepted four passes, broke up 10 passes and forced three fumbles. On offense, he caught 36 passes for 770 yards and eight touchdowns, while rushing 17 times for 277 yards and three touchdowns. Also returned a punt and a kickoff for touchdowns. Of his 13 touchdowns, 10 were on plays that were at least 37 yards.
"
That's a guy I would want on my team, as is 4-star offensive lineman Jordan Diamond. Landing both of those players would be a huge finish to an excellent recruiting year for Auburn, and would surely bump them into the top 10 of recruiting classes across the country.
So even on a day that saw them lose out to other schools for top recruits such as Kwon Alexander, Eddie Goldman, Ronald Darby, Leonard Williams and Cordarrelle Patterson, Auburn can still pull a top-10 class out of its hat.
Auburn fans will be waiting eagerly for them to do just that.
