National Signing Day 2012: Dorial Green-Beckham Eases Missouri's SEC Entrance

Alex KayFeb 1, 2012

The Missouri Tigers are entering the SEC next season and it’s going to be a tough transition for the former Big 12 powerhouse.  They are fortunate to have the nation’s No. 1 receiving recruit and Rivals.com’s No. 1 overall prospect on their side.

Dorial Green-Beckham is a physical freak that will dominate the SEC defenses like no one has since Julio Jones and A.J. Green.

DGB stands at a legitimate 6’6”, 220 pounds and runs a sub-4.50 40-yard-dash. He has been both torching and overpowering his high-school opponents.

Now he has a chance to prove himself against bigger, stronger, faster defenders like the ones he will match up against when the Tigers take the field against fearsome opponents such as Alabama and Florida.

Pete Scantlebury of Rivals.com reported that Green-Beckham’s decision stemmed from the school’s close proximity to his hometown of Springfield.

They are lucky the young stud grew up just a three-hour drive from the Columbia campus.

He also has been close with the Tigers’ recruiting/offensive coordinator David Yost since his freshman year of high school and the two have built an friendship over the past four years.

That relationship blossomed and allowed for Mizzou to add a crown jewel to their otherwise decent recruiting class heading into their first year of SEC play.

The Tigers have targeted a number of linebackers to bulk up their defense and a few big offensive linemen to block those immensely quick pass-rushers of the new conference.

Now, they can count on DGB to make an immediate impact and he should be on the field immediately, not wasting any time with a redshirt.

Another positive for the Tigers is that incumbent QB James Franklin will be back. He made some real strides towards the end of last season, helping the team to win three-straight games and then capture a bowl victory.

According to Chris Replogle of KSPR.com, Green-Beckham is excited about the prospect of playing with the signal caller.

"

“I see myself coming in there and leading the offense real well, having James Franklin creating a whole lot of space, having more time to throw the ball," said Green-Beckham.  “I feel more comfortable with my decision."

"

Franklin should be the one feeling more comfortable about his decision to join Mizzou now that he has a true receiving threat like Dorial Green-Beckham to throw the rock to.
