Lakers Rumors: Signing Gilbert Arenas Jeopardizes Los Angeles' Season

The Lakers have to be careful that in their zest to find a capable point guard they don't shoot themselves in the foot. Scratch that. They need to make sure they don't shoot themselves in the head, twice, with an elephant gun. By that I mean, don't sign Gilbert Arenas.

If you're a Lakers fan, the bad news is the Lakers have discussed doing that. The good news is, that's all they've done according to this ESPN report.

Yet it appears from various comments and articles that there are many Lakers fans who would be delighted should he be signed by the team. Look, there's a reason that there are other teams in need of a point guard who aren't going near him. 

There can't be enough said about how much a player can destroy a locker room. It's possible the Washington Wizards are still reeling from the Arenas effect. The man literally pooped in a teammate's shoe. 

What else can you say about him? What ruins a locker room faster than defecating in one another's wardrobes?

How long do you think that sort of behavior is going to sit with Kobe Bryant? And what happens when you combine him with Metta World Peace?

Those who would entertain adding him to the Lakers are ignoring one thing. It's not a matter of if, but when he does something so stupid that it derails the entire Lakers season. 

The right thing to do here is look elsewhere. There are places where the Lakers can get just as much, if not more talent (Ramon Sessions?) without giving up anyone from the current team, and without the impending disaster that comes with Gilbert Arenas.
