Mario Edwards: No. 1 Recruit Heads Class That Will Push FSU to Top of ACC

Wes ODonnellJun 7, 2018

Florida State is doing it again.

One year after landing arguably the No. 1 recruiting class in the nation, Jimbo Fisher strolls into national signing day and is working the same magic.

ESPNU 150 No. 1 recruit Mario Edwards held strong on his commitment and signed his letter of intent early this morning. Barely an hour later, ESPNU 150 No. 10 recruit Eddie Goldman did the same.

Jimbo Fisher continues to dominate at positions of need and positions of overall talent and has himself nine ESPN 150 recruits including two 5-star recruits and ten 4-star recruits.

But this year, in particular, is going to be the one to put the 'Noles over the top in ACC for the first time since 2005.

Fisher returns a number of starters from last season including his starting QB E.J. Manuel. They have one of the best defensive lines in the entire country and now add four new elite players to that group as well.

They have a talented running back and wide receiver joining their already talented skill position players and they have two quarterbacks (Jameis Winston signed but did say on air today that he is still all for Florida State) coming in as well.

This team is already super talented and was going to be earn a top 10 preseason ranking regardless, now has a number of players who can join the ranks immediately.

Florida State doesn't need any of them to truly shine this year, but they can use—the defensive line especially—to make life absolutely miserable for opposing offenses.

That is where Edwards and Goldman and Chris Casher (No. 3 DE in ESPNU 150) become so important.

There is a chance for the 'Noles to sport a New York Giants-like defensive line next year where they can rotate in supreme talent play after play.

Whether or not Florida State earns the No. 1 recruiting class or not is irrelevant. The talent they have will push them over the top this year once and for all.

UPDATE

The 'Noles just added four-star cornerback Ronald Darby, a former Notre Dame commit, to their haul this year too.
