Ohio State Football Recruiting: Urban Meyer's Big Impact on Recruiting Continues

Tim KeeneyJun 5, 2018

Urban Meyer does it again.

The recruiting wizard continued his amazing success today by getting a signature from offensive tackle Kyle Dodson, who verbally committed to Wisconsin way back in June.

Dodson, a 4-star from Cleveland, marks the ninth player—rated as four stars or higher—who has signed since Meyer became head coach just two months ago.

Since coming on as Ohio State's head coach, Meyer has made a quick impact on the recruiting scene, perhaps a bigger impact than anyone else in the country

"

"Meyer has made such a big, early impact on the recruiting trail because he is fearless, and that trait certainly has not diminished in the year since he left Florida," Rivals.com Midwest recruiting analyst Josh Helmholdt said. "He walks into every recruitment with the confidence that he can get that kid to sign with Ohio State, and his string of recent successes only furthers that mindset. He is not afraid to go to any region of the country or recruit against any program to get the kids he wants."

"

It all started with Se'von Pittman and Tommy Schutt, both 4-star defensive linemen. Then came the biggest signing, as Meyer wrapped up 5-star Noah Spence.

Then Taylor Decker. Then Joey O'Connor. Then David Perkins. Then Camren Williams. Then Armani Reeves.

All 4-star recruits.

In a matter of months, Meyer has turned this program around and he hasn't even coached a snap yet. After finishing outside the top 10 in recruiting class rankings the last two years, Meyer has propelled the Buckeyes to the top five.

Easily.

What's more impressive is that Meyer, whose recruiting usually starts early in the recruits' career, came in late. He wasn't able to do the homework on these kids or develop his usual game plan. Nonetheless, he's pulled in stud after stud, even after some had verbally committed elsewhere.

The attraction of playing for Urban Meyer is too much to pass up.

Oh, yeah, he also picked up Jamal Marcus today. I can't even keep up.

Urban Meyer is a terrific coach, but if you're a Buckeye fan, you have to feel confident about how the man can recruit.

Just wait until he has a little time under his belt. He won't have to settle for the fourth-best class in the country.
