College Football Recruiting Rankings 2012: Teams Rising the Quickest
Until National Signing Day actually arrives, the college football recruiting rankings mean practically nothing.
So much can change on one day. Players who verbally committed a year ago aren't actually signed until they, well, sign. Players who are uncommitted can totally change the face of a class with one signature.
Now that NSD is finally here and all heck is breaking loose, here's a look at what schools are steadily climbing the rankings.
Note: All the "star" rankings and overall team rankings are according to Rivals.com.
Washington Huskies
The hiring of defensive coordinator Justin Wilcox and, more importantly, recruiting wizard Tosh Lupoi, was absolutely huge for the Dawgs.
The Huskies are making big splashes, especially in the last few days. A couple of days ago, they made the biggest noise by signing 5-star safety Shaq Thompson, who instantly made this class a Top-25 one.
Washington also pulled in 4-star WR Jaydon Mickens yesterday and stole 4-star DE Pio Vatuvei from USC.
However, 4-star WR Jordan Payton, who committed to UW yesterday on ESPNU, is now reportedly leaning towards UCLA. Also, 4-star QB Cyler Miles might actually sign with USC.
Those would be huge blows to this Washington class, but still, just a week ago, their only certain 4-star recruit was QB Jeff Lindquist. Now, they are on the fringe of breaking into the Top 20.
Rutgers Scarlet Knights
New head coach Kyle Flood is making a big impact on recruiting, and he's making it quick.
With yesterday's announcement that Darius Hamilton, a 5-star defensive end, would choose Rutgers over Miami, this class instantly took a big step forward.
Throw in a bunch of other 4-star recruits and this class is easily in the Top 25 and on the way up.
UCLA Bruins
In the last few days, the Bruins have pulled in 4-star dual-threat QB Devin Fuller, 3-star WR Kenneth Walker and a couple other 3-stars.
Now, throw in the expected arrival of Jordan Payton, and UCLA is really moving up in the rankings.
And, don't forget about Ellis McCarthy, the 5-star defensive tackle who committed a few weeks ago.
Despite the coaching changes at UCLA, the program is in as good of shape as ever. This is a Top-15 class and still getting better.
