Torshiro Davis Reportedly Headed to Texas After Ditching LSU
Torshiro Davis committed to play for LSU a year ago, but the Shreveport, Louisiana native has changed his mind.
According to Jason Suchomel of OrangeBloods.com, Davis has decided to switch his commitment to Texas:
Davis is widely regarded as an elite pass-rusher, using his speed and natural athleticism to get to the quarterback.
Player Ranking/High School Accomplishments
Rivals.com has Davis ranked as the No. 8 outside linebacker prospect in the country and the No. 125 player overall. As a defensive end, ESPNU has Davis ranked No. 12 at his position and No. 77 overall in the nation. He was selected to play in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl.
Final College Choices: LSU, Texas
What Davis Brings
Davis is raw, but he has athleticism to spare. You'll be hard pressed to find a faster linebacker.
He's not going to be able to run past blockers at the collegiate level, but he's a solid prospect who could become a dangerous weapon with a little seasoning.
Why Davis and Texas Are a Good Fit
If we know one thing about Texas, it's that the program knows defense. The Longhorns were one of the better defensive teams in the country in 2011 and they can only get better.
Down the line, Davis will upgrade the linebacking corps.
Projected 2012 Impact
Because Davis is so raw, he likely won't have much of an impact right out of the gate. But seeing as how Davis decided to switch his commitment at the last minute, it's clear that he sees a role for himself in Austin.
Sooner or later, he will make an impact.
