2012 NFL Free Agents: 4 WRs Who Could Replace Reggie Wayne in Indianapolis

Zach KruseJun 6, 2018

With the Indianapolis Colts on the verge of a rebuilding process that will likely see the end of the quarterback that Reggie Wayne has played with for the majority of his career, the free agent receiver could be looking for a new city to play in next season.

The possibility still exists for Wayne to return to Indianapolis, especially if he's willing to take a reasonable salary. However, for the sake of this article, let's assume Wayne finds a better offer and leaves the Colts this offseason after 11 years in Indianapolis.

Here are four other free agent receivers that could replace Wayne in 2012:

1. Robert Meachem, Saints

The Saints also have Marques Colston to sign this offseason, so it's likely that either he or Meachem will get away.

While the former first-round pick has never showed the ability to be a true No. 1 receiver, the Colts wouldn't need him to be. As long as Meachem can make explosive plays down the field for Andrew Luck, he's worth a look.

2. Laurent Robinson, Cowboys

Robinson broke out in 2011 with 858 yards and 11 touchdowns after the Cowboys dealt with injuries at receiver.

Finally coming into his own at age 26, Robinson might warrant the opportunity for a bigger role in an offense. The Cowboys are likely to want him back, but Miles Austin and Dez Bryant are entrenched in Dallas.

3. Early Doucet, Cardinals

In his first full season as a main target in Arizona, Doucet caught over 50 passes with five touchdowns over six starts.

The number of big plays were limited, however, and Doucet's 12.8 yards per reception is low for a guy as explosive as he is. Still, there is upside in the 26-year-old that hasn't been tapped yet.

4. Harry Douglas, Falcons

Douglas has just over 1,000 receiving yards and four total touchdowns in three seasons in Atlanta, but he showed flashes of playmaking ability last season when Julio Jones fought injuries.

Could he simply need a fresh start and more opportunities to take the next step?
