Dante Fowler Jr. Signs with Florida After Ditching FSU

Alex KayJun 7, 2018

Dante Fowler Jr. shocked Florida State and the rest of the college football world today when he announced he would sign with the University of Florida.

Chris Nee of Rivals.com reported that the 5-star defensive end prospect decided to switch his decision after being committed to the Seminoles for over a year.

Gators’ coach Will Muschamp did not give up on landing Fowler, a 6’3”, 232-pound recruit, and it finally paid off today.

Fowler signed his letter of intent to play for Florida at Bright House Sports Network studios in Tampa Bay, close to where he was a standout player for Lakewood High School.

This shocking news certainly hurts the Seminoles, who were almost positive they could count on him to be on the roster next season.

However, Fowler made multiple trips to Gainesville after choosing to initially play in Tallahassee.

According to The Tampa Bay Times, Fowler had quite a wild weekend and his 100 percent commitment to FSU drastically changed.

Bob Putman reports,

"

Fowler played up to the hoopla surrounding his decision by saying he would pick from a hat to declare his choice. On Tuesday, Fowler said on Facebook that his fans had one more day to convince him whether to go to Florida or FSU.

"

It’s obvious either fans on Facebook or Muschamp and his staff made a huge push to get the talented but troubled young man in a Gators’ uniform this upcoming season.

According to Laura McKeeman, reporter for FOX Sports, it was Muschamp's defensive mentality that sealed the deal.

However, the Florida coach has his work cut out for him.

Fowler was suspended by his team for getting into a “heated” argument with his coaches while breaking down film and was downgraded a star by Rivals.com after the incident.

He gained that fifth star back because of his excellent play in the 2012 Under Armour All-American Game and showed he has a lot of talent to unearth.

Florida is going to need to take great care to make sure this young man matures properly during his time in school and he could become a great player for them if he can keep his attitude in check.
