Jerry Sandusky: Names of Alleged Victims Will Be Given to Defense by Week's End

Tim DanielsJun 7, 2018

Former Penn State coach Jerry Sandusky and his defense team will be given the names of his accusers sometime this week, according to ESPN. It's been nearly three months since reports surfaced about charges against Sandusky, but until now the alleged victims have been unknown.

"

The attorney general's office said that the alleged victims' names will be delivered to Sandusky's lawyer Joe Amendola by the close of business Friday, a process that would apparently avoid disclosure through public court records.

"

Sandusky has continued to maintain his innocence in relation to the sex abuse charges brought against him by 10 individuals. Receiving the names, which will apparently not be made public at this time, will allow the defense team to continue building their case.

It's a story that continues to grab national headlines because of the massive fallout at one of the nation's premier universities. The scandal led to the removal of several high-ranking officials at the school.

After waiving his preliminary hearing, Sandusky and his lawyer said there have been no plea negotiations and that they plan to fight the charges. According to ABC News, Amendola said, “This will be a fight to the death, the fight of Jerry Sandusky's life.”

The report also says the defense team is hoping for a trial in the summer or fall of this year. Sandusky's next day in court is still to be announced after the March 22 pre-trial conference was cancelled.

All told, Sandusky is facing more than 50 criminal counts based on the testimony of the 10 alleged victims to the Grand Jury.
