National Signing Day 2012: Who'll Be the Big Winner of the Day?

Dan VastaJun 3, 2018

It feels like Christmas morning for many high school stars (and fans) around the nation today as the nation awaits their decision on where they will attend to play their college ball.

BCS National Championships are not won on National Signing Day, but they are often started by coming out a winner on days like these.

So, which team will become the biggest winner today and land all of the top notch future stars?

There are a few teams that practically are done with commitments, but a few teams have some surprises for the rest of us.

Currently ranked third by ESPN and seventh by Rivals, Florida State is on everybody's radar because of the remaining stars that are seriously considering Tallahassee as their next home.

Eddie Goldman, a 5-star defensive tackle, is making his decision at 10:05 a.m. ET and it is down to a few schools, but FSU is looked as the favorite.

Goldman (6'4", 310 pounds) is ranked as the tenth overall prospect by ESPN, No. 31 by Scout and seventh by Rivals.

Out of Washington, DC, the defensive tackle is a bulldog that is relentless in the trenches and he would be a tremendous addition for a 'Noles defense that is getting better by the second.

Their defensive line is already among the top five units in America arguably, but they are lacking star power at the interior of the line.

They landed Timmy Jernigan last season and certainly Goldman would make Seminoles nation jump for join if he does join (Also looking at Alabama, Auburn, Cal, Maryland among few others).

Defensive backs Tracy Howard (ESPN No. 18, No. 1 CB) and Ronald Darby (ESPN No. 38, No. 3 CB) are also on the radar for the Seminoles, even though most believe Howard is Hurricane bound.

Florida State is loaded with stars in the secondary (Xavier Rhodes, Greg Reid, LaMarcus Joyner), but they could use some more depth at corner and Darby would fit the bill.

Darby is committing on ESPN U at 2:30 pm ET, whereas Howard is committing at 9:35 am ET

Florida State is not the only team that should be landing a few stars, as the USC Trojans and the Stanford Cardinal could be on the brink of landing a few of their own.

Stanford is No. 17 by ESPN at the moment, but they are hoping they can land one of the best offensive linemen in the country, Andrus Peat (No. 2 OT, No. 9 Overall) and Kyle Murphy (No. 27 Overall, ESPN).

Murphy (6'6", 270 pounds) is out of San Clemente, CA but could see immediate playing time with the loss of future first-round draft pick Jonathan Martin.

Another big name that Stanford faithful are hopeful in landing is Aziz Shittu (No. 27, Rivals ), who has been compared to a young Gerald McCoy by Rivals.

At 6'3", 275 pounds, the defensive linemen would add a ton of depth for a Cardinal defense that has significantly improved through the years.

Stanford may seem an under the radar team, but USC cannot be. Leonard Williams (6'6", 265 pounds) is considered by many as one of the better defensive tackles in the nation, as ESPN ranks him overall at No. 50.

Some experts have him going to Florida whereas a few have him landing with the Trojans. If they cannot land the star out of Dayton Beach, FL (Mainland), most are banking on them to land 4-star receiver Nelson Agholor.

Agholor (6'1", 180 pounds) is highly touted as he is ranked No. 18 overall by Rivals and No. 47 by ESPN.

Nelson is expected to make his decision just past noon on the east coast (12:05 pm ET) whereas Leonard Williams is aiming towards 11 a.m. ET on ESPN U.
