Bryce Harper and Video of the 7 Future Faces of MLB

Jeff ChaseFeb 1, 2012

The future is among us, as many of the the MLB's top prospects should be making their way to the big leagues soon.

That means that teams will have potential new stars, and fans will have new favorite players.

Most teams are hoping that these guys will be the future of their team, and will also hope that they will be able to add some good production to their team in the coming seasons.

There are a lot of prospects who are on the verge of making a MLB roster, but these guys are going to dominate for many years to come.

Los Angeles Angels Outfielder Mike Trout

1 of 7

Mike Trout of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim has already made brief appearances at the major league level, but fans should be expecting him to be a consistent piece to the lineup this coming season.

In 40 games this past season with the Angels, Trout his five home runs, 16 RBI while batting .220. He did strike out 30 times, but he should be getting much more adjusted with the experience he gains.

It certainly won't hurt for him to have Albert Pujols on the roster now, and depending on where he bats, it should give him a nice opportunity to produce or score runs.

Tampa Bay Rays Pitcher Matt Moore

2 of 7

The Tampa Bay Rays are hoping that pitcher Matt Moore will be their next big guy out of the minors.

This past season, he appeared in three games for the Rays, recording 15 strikeouts over 9.1 innings. He also had an ERA of 2.89, but his sample number isn't really big enough to tout instant success.

His dominance in the minor leagues, 1.37 ERA with 78 strikeouts through 52.2 innings in Triple-A, is a good sign that he should be able to find success in the major leagues.

He will have some tough opposition right away with the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox, but it will be a good way for him to get out of his shell right away.

Texas Rangers Pitcher Yu Darvish

3 of 7

You likely already know much about Japanese pitching sensation Yu Darvish. The Texas Rangers are hoping that they got their long-term future when they signed him this offseason.

In Japan, his career record was 93-38 with an ERA of 1.99 and 1,259 strikeouts. There is no doubt that Darvish is a talented kid, but his true test will come with the talent that is in the MLB.

If he can pitch anything like he has, he will be able to own lineups every time he hits the mound.

The sky is the limit for him, but hopefully it won't come crashing down like it did for former Japanese phenom Daisuke Matsuzaka.

Seattle Mariners Catcher Jesus Montero

4 of 7

The Seattle Mariners got a huge piece this offseason in the New York Yankees' top prospect catcher Jesus Montero.

With Miguel Olivo already in place as the team's catcher, expect to see Montero as the opening designated hitter.

He will likely get his opportunities behind the plate, but for now the team will be able to benefit from his offensive fire power.

At Triple-A this past season, he hit .288 with 18 home runs, 19 doubles and 121 hits through 109 games. He has the potential to hit for power, but he hasn't been able to be consistent yet.

St. Louis Cardinals Pitcher Shelby Miller

5 of 7

The St. Louis Cardinals have always had great pitching, and they once again will have another stud ace when Shelby Miller hits the field.

In Double-A this past year, he posted a record of 9-3 with an ERA of 2.70. He also had 89 strikeouts through 86.2 innings.

Miller will likely get his shot this season at spring training, but it is much more likely that he will start the year at Triple-A.

Don't be surprised if this kid is up sooner than you may think.

Washington Nationals Outfielder Bryce Harper

6 of 7

The talk of the town is Washington Nationals outfielder Bryce Harper.

Touted as one of the best drafted players in recent memory, the former No. 1 pick should be ready to make his MLB debut relatively soon.

This past season with both Single-A and Double-A, Harper batted a combined .297 with 58 RBI, 17 home runs and 24 doubles. His numbers in Double-A were worse, but he should be ready to make the jump sooner than later.

His power numbers are definitely not where many would have thought, but he may come around after having a full season under his belt.

Harper will likely get his shot at spring training, but it is likely a long shot that he will make the Opening Day roster.

One shouldn't be shocked if he gets called up at some point in 2012.

Baltimore Orioles Shortstop Manny Machado

7 of 7

While he is only 19 years old, the Baltimore Orioles shortstop prospect Manny Machado is projected to be a star.

Some have compared him to Alex Rodriguez, but that is quite a compliment for a player who still needs to make it out of the Single-A level.

Machado is one of those guys that could make a quick jump—like the Chicago Cubs Starlin Castro—but he will need to see a huge increase in his numbers at the start of this season.

Last season, he batted a combined .257 with 11 home runs, 50 RBI and 98 hits. He will certainly need to get the batting average up higher, but the potential here is only going to continue to increase.
