Kentucky Basketball Platinum Jerseys: Grading the Wildcats' Cool New Unis

Nike has unveiled their new “platinum” line that will be worn by nine teams throughout the college basketball universe.

One of those teams is the University of Kentucky, who wore their jerseys Tuesday night against Tennessee. Nike used its laser-cut bonded logos that are designed for “superior performance and lower environmental impact” to make the print on the jerseys stand out.

Jersey Grade: C-

I’m not going to lie, that does not look like the sort of platinum color that is draped around the necks of rappers.

This is much greyer than anything else and it looks somewhat bland. I find it funny that Nike put a floating blue sleeve next to the jersey for everybody wondering what John Wall would look like if he still played there.

Shorts Grade: B-

The shorts are a bit better because it features the cool checkered design along the side, but it’s certainly nothing spectacular.

Shoe Grade: A

By far the best part of this outfit, the shoes have the perfect blend of blue and white without any of the “platinum” located on the rest of the jersey aside from on the laces. Nike better sell these shoes in stores because I want me a pair.

Creativity Grade: F

Here is the version North Carolina is wearing. It looks exactly the same aside from a light blue ring around the waist and on the bottom of the shorts.

What if both teams wore their uniforms when they played each other earlier this season? Nobody could have told the difference.

Overall: C

Nike should have just called these uniforms grey and not tried to make it sound like anything more than it is. The football version of this style looked much better and it’s a good thing they will only be around for one game.
