Avery Young to Auburn: Tigers Land 4-Star OT Prospect

Wes ODonnellFeb 1, 2012

Offensive tackle Avery Young's final decision came down to all southern powerhouses. Ultimately, the Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. recruit decided he is going to play college football for Auburn.

Young made the announcement on national signing day, as confirmed by Marc Weiszer of the Athens Banner-Herald. It's a great addition for the Tigers, who were one of several teams hoping to get his signature.

Both ESPN and Rivals rank the 6'5", 292 pounder as a 4-star recruit while Scout gave him a fifth star.

Young is still coming into his own and is only scratching the surface of his potential.

He comes with great size, long arms and good flexibility but is still getting comfortable with his body.

When he steps onto campus at Auburn, he'll immediately benefit from a collegiate workout program and diet.

If he takes to everything well, listens to his coaches and works on his craft, he could very easily develop an elite offensive line prospect in the SEC.

Young's high school squad at Gardens ran for nearly 300 yards per game and he was a big part of that.

The Tigers are lucky to have him in the program and he'll not only get better as a player but will have a big impact on this entire offensive line going forward if he develops.

All of his weaknesses are coachable things that can be corrected and physically he has everything you look for in a highly-touted recruit.

Avery took visits to Auburn, Florida, Georgia, Alabama and Miami and you can be sure that the SEC schools he passed on won't want to see him in a few years.

He's not going to step on the field and make an immediate impact, but he'll be somebody to keep an eye on down the road.
