Super Bowl Media Day 2012: Best Images from Media Week's Wildest Day

Eric BallJun 7, 2018

The Tuesday before the Super Bowl is the one interesting day in the two-week hype-fest that media outlets around the world force their viewers to endure.

Tuesday is the chance for players to answer questions about their favorite cartoon character and their preferred fruit to put on their cereals. It’s the most relaxed the players will be before they really buckle down for Sunday.

With virtually every media outlet under the sun on hand, here are some of the best pictures captured throughout the day.

1. Wes Welker's '70s Porn 'Stache

1 of 10

When you’re as short as Welker (5’8’’) you either have short-man syndrome for the rest of your life or you turn into a tough guy with a chip on your shoulder.

Welker took road B.

He has turned into one of the quickest and fastest receivers in the league and has no qualms about growing a strong and thick mustache that looks straight out of a bad '70s porn movie.

2. Using a Football as a Pillow

2 of 10

We all know Bill Belichick likes to work his players ragged, but falling asleep on a hardwood chair with pigskin supporting your dome?

Dude, get some sleep.

3. A Bird's-Eye View of Eli

Want to snap a picture of Eli Manning?

Like a roller-coaster ride, it looks like it’s going to be about 45 minutes from this point.

4. A Little Salsa Dancing

4 of 10

Where’s Victor Cruz when you need him?

Here is a Giants player doing some sort of dance with a sombrero, but it’s not Cruz; it's offensive tackle Selvish Capers. His partner is Televisa’s Marisol Gonzalez who is able to pull off the spin move with a microphone in her hand.

Very impressive.

5. Even the Kicker Matters

5 of 10

Thanks to Billy Cundiff, the football world was reminded that kickers are in fact a big part of the team.

Nothing tells you how many media members are on hand quite like seeing a picture with a score of media reporters surrounding Lawrence Tynes.

What exactly do you ask a kicker? Will there be a lot of pressure for you to make every kick? Do you have nightmares of becoming the goat?

I don’t understand how reporters could ask more than three questions to a kicker.

6. Is That My Baby Mama?

6 of 10

The majority of the two teams are new to the insanity that goes with media day.

New York Giants Chad Jones and Adrian Tracy took a look at the endless amounts of cameras and microphones on the field and were captured with a classic look that is a cross between a guy who has just seen a woman he wants to avoid and a guy who was just watched the scene in American Psycho where blood is splattering everywhere.

7. Devin McCourty Likes to Wear Weird Hats

7 of 10

So I guess Devin McCourty dresses like a pirate in his off time.

If he starts holding media member hostage for their loot, they’ll surely get out of the cornerback's way.

Arggggggg.

8. Tom Brady's Senior Picture

8 of 10

You'd think a three-time Super Bowl winner could get out of the awkward poses forced upon him on media day.

Nope.

Brady looks like a kid who is forced to the photography studio to snap his senior pictures that he'll hand out to all of the hottest girls in 12th grade.

9. Rob Gronkowki Has a Gun!

9 of 10

Who cares if Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski is going to play or not—he has a gun!

My guess is that he's threatening reporters that he'll shoot the next person to ask him about his ankle with his "hand" gun.

It's the Super Bowl; of course he will be playing.

10. Conclusion

10 of 10

In the first year where fans could watch from the stands, the general consensus was that everybody had fun.

It's the last day before the focus and energy of the players shift to the task at hand and it's a time to goof off and enjoy yourself in front of every media outlet known to man.

This picture of Pats offensive lineman Matt Kopa and a reporter symbolizes what this day is all about.
