Why Ronald Darby Will Sign With Florida State on National Signing Day

Rob GoldbergJun 1, 2018

Highly touted cornerback Ronald Darby will wait until National Signing Day to announce his school decision, but it is very likely that he will choose Florida State.

The former Notre Dame commit reopened his recruitment earlier this month and is now considering Clemson and Auburn as well as the Seminoles.

Whichever team lands Darby will get an incredible athlete with blazing speed that will help in many facets of the game. Although he was a great high school running back, most scouts believe that his skills at cornerback will separate him from the rest of the field.

According to Scout.com, he is the best in the country at his position and ranked No. 9 overall.

Even with his skill on the defensive end, the biggest impact he can make right away will be in the return game. His speed (4.31 in the 40-yard dash) combined with his elusiveness and agility make him incredibly tough to contain in the open field.

This speed is one of the reasons that the cornerback will end up at Florida State.

Darby would like to continue his track and field career into college and the Seminoles have an elite program that is consistently among the nation's best. Alongside fellow commit Marvin Bracy, the pair can become two-sport athletes and share a bond that lasts year-round.

Another recruit that can affect the Darby sweepstakes is defensive tackle Eddie Goldman. Known as one of the best defensive linemen in the country, Goldman had a similar list of schools but narrowed it down to Alabama, Auburn or Florida State.

The two elite players go to high school not too far from each other, with Goldman playing football in Washington D.C. and Darby living in nearby Oxon Hill, Maryland.

After spending plenty of time together in various all-star games, it would not be surprising if the two coordinated their efforts to chose the same school.

In fact, when Rivals.com asked six of their experts to predict where the top recruits would end up, every analysts agreed that both Goldman and Darby would sign with Florida State.

The Seminoles do not have a desperate need for cornerbacks next season, but most of the players on the roster will be upperclassmen. This will allow Darby to better learn the position while not being forced onto the field before he is ready.

If he wants to reach his full potential and feel comfortable during his time in college, Darby will select Florida State.
