Blake Griffin Dunk: Why Dunk over Kendrick Perkins Isn't the Greatest Ever
Blake Griffin's posterization of Kendrick Perkins was epic, but it was not the most amazing slam ever. A day after his rim-rattling throwdown, Griffin is getting a lot of buzz for this prestigious honor, but that is the way things go.
Whatever is the most recent typically gets heralded as the best. Still, people pushing this jam to the top of Mt. Dunk have a point. This is an awesome display of aerial dominance, and it's close, but not the top.
Okay, with that in our short-term memory bank, let's take a look at some more contenders.
LeBron Clears Lucas
This dunk is not better. Even LeKing himself admits that.
But anytime you go right over someone for an alley-oop, it deserves consideration. Also, this dunk happened the night before, and had some wondering then if it was the best dunk ever.
The OG Blake Throw Down
This dunk was remarkably similar to the famous slam Griffin had last year on Timofey Mozgov of the Knicks.
While Blake's dunk on Perkins was more impressive, the fact that this dunk is so similar takes the tiniest bit of shine off of his latest effort.
The Reign Man
Speaking of the original—Shawn Kemp was Blake Griffin before Griffin. Here is a handy-dandy top 10 compilation to prove it. Griffin is comparable, and at times more breathtaking, than Kemp, but he will never match the sheer violence of a Kemp slam.
Check out the top three in that video. It's like he was in a dunk contest. My personal favorite is No. 3. The double-clutch reverse.
I'd put that one spot ahead of Blake at No. 2. Meaning there is one dunk that dominates them all....
Vince Grabs the Gold
This wasn't in an NBA game, but who cares. It was the Olympics, which really only makes it better because Vince was dunking for America, and the guy he clears is 7'2"!
They didn't call him half-man, half-amazing for nothing.
