NBA Rumors: Top Teams That Need to Deal for Hornets' Center Chris Kaman

Eric BowmanJan 31, 2012

As the NBA season continues, the trade rumors keep heating up. New Orleans Hornets big man Chris Kaman is on the block, and some teams have a bigger need for him than others.

John Reid of The Times-Picayune reported earlier this week that the Hornets are receiving calls from teams interested in their newly acquired center.

Kaman came to the Hornets in the deal with the Los Angeles Clippers for Chris Paul, but he hasn't played for New Orleans since Jan. 23.

Reid reported that general manager Dell Demps said, "Kaman will not be with the team until he’s traded."

Listed at 7'0", 265 pounds, Kaman could definitely be used by a number of teams. That being said, here are three teams that really need to pursue him.

Golden State Warriors

Marcus Thompson II of the Contra Costa Times reported that the Warriors have talked with the Hornets, but league sources indicate a deal is unlikely.

That doesn't mean the Warriors should give up on dealing for Kaman. While the Warriors have size, they aren't the type of players to make a big difference. Kaman is a much better player, which is why the Warriors desperately need his services.

David Lee is the only solid rebounder on the team with Kwame Brown out with a torn chest muscle. Currently, the Warriors are four-and-a-half games out of eighth place in the Western Conference.

Golden State needs to better their roster, and Kaman would be a great addition.

Atlanta Hawks

Ever since Al Horford went down with an injury, the Hawks have been fighting hard to stay alive in the Eastern Conference.

Right now, the Hawks are in fourth place, but as the season progresses, they will find it hard to stay there and win big in the playoffs without Horford.

Atlanta needs to add size, which is why getting Kaman makes perfect sense. Kaman would serve has a great temporary replacement for Horford, but the question is whether or nor the Hawks management would be willing to make such a move.

The Hawks need help in the middle, and if they're serious about wanting to win it all, they'll do what it takes to get Kaman.

Houston Rockets

Reid points out in his report that the Rockets are one of the five teams interested in Kaman, and rightfully so.

Houston is currently in eighth place of the Western Conference, and in order to avoid missing the playoffs once again, the Rockets need help down low.

Kaman will be another big body for the Rockets, and he'll not only help keep them a solid rebounding team, but Kaman will also put points on the board and help on the defensive end.

Samuel Dalembert has been solid for the Rockets this season, but strengthening the depth of the team will increase their chances of reaching the playoffs.
