10 Most Embarrassing Premier League Own Goals
The 2012 edition of AskMen's Top 99 Women is out! So what does this have to do with a list of embarrassing own goals in the EPL, you might ask?
Before we answer that, would it matter if it was mentioned that Irina Shayk is No. 67? How could this be possible, some might remark?
It might be due to the fact that she's Cristiano's girlfriend. Blame it on envy? Subliminal competitiveness maybe? Or even misplaced rage?
OK, too far?
And that brings me to own goals. Does that dredge up similar feelings? I suppose it depends on which side you're on, of course.
Football, for all its passionate moments, can regale us with lighter moments too...
And so, without further ado, here is a list of the 10 most embarrassing Premier League Own Goals of all time...
No. 10: Tony Popovic
1 of 10A defender for Crystal Palace between 2001-06, Popovic has taken up coaching duties with the same team. His own goal as a player continues to draw a lot of attention.
Not funny (yet)...but a beautiful one all the same!
No. 9: Frank Sinclair
2 of 10Frank Sinclair didn't just slot one own goal, he put in a few during his time at Leicester City. What makes this collection of own goals funnier are the comments in the background...
No. 8: Jamie Pollock
3 of 10Considering how natural the action seemed, who would have thought that Pollock wasn't the striker...he was that good! Let's not forget that this own goal was what caused Manchester City to be relegated instead of Queens Park Rangers.
Yes, Jesus is second to him, in an internet poll...
No. 7: Peter Enckelman
4 of 10Birmingham City vs. Aston Villa. 3-0. Mellberg takes a throw-in, and Enckelman made history for all the wrong reasons.
This goal remains a controversy until this day...
No. 6: Chris Weale
5 of 10This was not necessarily a moment of triumph for Chris Weale and, definitely, one he wishes he could forget. No doubt, this one gives Enckelman's "snafu" a run for its money...
No. 5: Shay Given
6 of 10Shay Given. While you can't blame him—this has got to be one of the cheekiest goals that has ever been scored.
For those who haven't seen this one yet, you're going to be surprised, if not grinning alright! Dion Dublin was the culprit...
No. 4: Andy Dibble
7 of 10This is probably the cheekiest goal in the game of football and EPL's history. Andy Dibble was the goalkeeper, and the sneaky forward was Gary Crosby.
No more "head games," Gary? Now, behave...
No. 3: Bryan Gunn
8 of 10This is one of the most embarrassing moments in Bryan Gunn's life. Probably the only one in his career as a goalkeeper.
But it's one that remains fresh in our memory even after 15 years...
No. 2: Wayne Hatswell
9 of 10While you may get bored of the first few videos, this is one that you'll never tire of watching. It's just terribly funny...while you can't help but feel for the flat-footed Hatswell for committing such a blunder!
Epic fail doesn't even begin to describe this moment...
No. 1: Chris Brass
10 of 10Voted as the No. 1 incident that should not happen to a footballer, you'll find out why if you haven't seen the video just yet. While all the other gaffes are more common—this one will go down in the history books as the most embarrassing own goal in the EPL yet...
