Manchester City's Top 5 Players This Season

Sam TigheJun 7, 2018

Manchester City have had a wonderful season so far and, as they head into the home straight, they're on course to contend for the title.

This is no doubt due to some incredible performances as a team and from certain individuals.

I've picked out five players who, if they continue to play at the standard they've set, should be able to lead The Citizens to a decent finish and hopefully an English Premier League trophy.

Enjoy the slideshow!

Honourable Mentions

1 of 6

Sergio Aguero—The Argentinian sensation looks like he's going to score every time he gets the ball in the box.

Joleon Lescott—He took his time to find his feet, but he's finally showing the form that prompted Mark Hughes to pay over £20million for his services.

Yaya Toure—Another great season from Yaya Toure so far, but nothing we haven't come to expect from the monstrous Ivorian.

Joe Hart

2 of 6

England fans everywhere are feeling secure in the knowledge we have a quality goalkeeper for the next 10 years.

Joe Hart has had yet another great season so far. Over the last month especially, he has turned in some quality performances.

He is the rock at the back of an increasingly solid defence for Manchester City. Roberto Mancini will be satisfied that he won't have to purchase another goalkeeper for as long as he's likely to be in charge.

Vincent Kompany

3 of 6

You didn't quite realise how important Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany was to the team until he received a lengthy ban.

Stefan Savic, in his place temporarily, has looked a little dodgy at times. The Citizens will welcome their Belgian superstar back.

City have maintained an excellent defensive record this season, making the Etihad Stadium a fortress and performing solidly away from home.

The title run-in will be close, and it'll be important for Kompany to play as many games as possible. More suspensions will make it significantly harder for the Blues.

James Milner

4 of 6

James Milner has finally settled in at Manchester City and become the important player Aston Villa fans knew he would be.

He's such a versatile player that he can be of several uses to Roberto Mancini. The Italian tactician is able to deploy Milner in an attacking, creative role or a defensive, more disciplined role.

He's great at seeing out games too, as his tracking ability and positional awareness is getting better and better.

He's been a star so far this season, even if some of important things he does in game go unnoticed by many.

Micah Richards

5 of 6

Th third standout Englishman on Manchester City's team is seemingly Fabio Capello's least favourite player.

What more must Micah Richards do to achieve a call-up to the national team?

He's been in top form all season, providing the aerial threat of a centre-back, the speed of a winger and the body strength to mix it with the very best.

Along with Joe Hart, Micah Richards is one of the few who have survived the constant cutting and revamping of the squad under the current billionaire ownership.

David Silva

6 of 6

David Silva is, without doubt, one of Manchester City's best players.

To think he can't even find a guaranteed spot in the Spanish national team is scary.

Through this season, Silva has been able to pick the lock on even the toughest defences with ultimate efficiency.

He's almost impossible to tackle inside the penalty box due to his slippery nature. His ability to slot in a reverse pass is quite breathtaking.

Roberto Mancini was likely to be hoping that Samir Nasri could emulate Silva and detract defensive attention from the Spanish wizard. Unfortunately so far, Nasri has been thoroughly average.
