Royal Rumble 2012 Review: Awful Bout Means WWE Has No Idea What to Do with Cena
Nothing was settled in the match between ultimate good and and evil at the 2012 Royal Rumble, and that has me fearful that anything will ever be changed in regards to face John Cena.
You can call him what you want—a good guy, hero or just Mr. Fruity Pebbles—but the match against Kane at Royal Rumble did little to invigorate fans or settle where things are headed for the most popular man in the WWE.
The two had been on a collision course in what was supposed to diverge in multiple ways, but not one of them was met. Kane didn't beat Cena into a pulp, setting up what would have been an epic rise until WrestleMania.

Cena didn't demolish Kane in what would have been the darkest moment of Cena's career, and possibly a much-needed image change for the hero of Cenation.
Instead, WWE took the easy way out with neither man getting the short end of the stick—and using this already tired story line a little more.
Wrestling Inc. reports WWE officials are flirting with having a Last Standing Man between John Cena and Kane at next month's Elimination Chamber pay-per-view event. So, instead of setting up what will go down at WrestleMania, they are getting a little more mileage out of a tale that should have ended Sunday.
The same Cena that entered the ring against Kane is largely the same that left, and therein lies the problem.
Since last year's promise for Cena to take on The Rock, we have been waiting for things to get interesting. With the clock ticking and big day inching closer, we are still waiting.
The scary thought is that Cena comes into the ring against The Rock as Mr. Fruity Pebbles, the same man that gets booed at most arenas and can only hurt the WWE in the long run with a stagnant image.
It's past the due date on an expired Cena persona. The WWE missed a perfect chance to spice things up at Royal Rumble, and there is no hope for them to make up the slack anytime soon.
