National Signing Day 2012: Why SEC Will Rule Once Again

Timothy RappJan 31, 2012

The rich get richer.

With National Signing Day quickly approaching, it looks as though the SEC has once again restocked.

Alabama already has arguably the one of the best incoming classes in the nation and could shoot up with a strong Signing Day, which might include a commitment from 5-star defensive lineman Eddie Goldman.

Tennessee has already secured 10 4-star recruits, best in the nation thus far.

Florida has two of the top 10 recruits in the nation, having secured offensive lineman D.J. Humphries and defensive end Jonathan Bullard. And with a chance to secure a third top-10 recruit—wide receiver Stefon Diggs—Florida will not only have a top-five class, but one of the most top-heavy classes in the nation as well.

LSU lost Gunner Kiel to Notre Dame, but still is bringing in nine 4-star recruits, and aren't finished yet.

Even the newcomers are handling their business. Led by 5-star running back Trey Williams, Texas A&M has compiled an excellent class, and Missouri might yet land the top recruit in all the land, wide receiver Dorial Green-Beckham.

Of those players who committed to schools in Rivals.com Top 100 players, 26 are headed to the SEC, a number that will likely significantly increase on Wednesday.

If Alabama ends up with the top ranking in recruiting again this year, that will be the fourth time in five years they've had a top-ranked class.

Let's keep it real—if you were a top recruit and could essentially choose to play at any school you wanted, wouldn't you want to play against the top competition in the country in the SEC? Wouldn't you want to play for a team like Alabama or LSU that would likely play for a National Championship while you were there?

I would. And on Signing Day this Wednesday, you'll see quite a few top recruits that made a decision for the same reason.

Hit me up on Twitter—my tweets are chicken soup for the Internet soul.
