WWE News: Scrapped Plans for John Cena to Win the Royal Rumble Match Revealed

The Royal Rumble was not a good showing for John Cena. 

He was dominated by Kane throughout their match, on the wrong end of a backstage beatdown once the match was over, destroyed with a chokeslam in the middle of the ring and then surprisingly left out of the 30-Man Royal Rumble match. 

At one point, though, the WWE creative team apparently had much different Royal Rumble plans in place for Cena.

One of the ideas WWE officials were discussing for the Royal Rumble would have seen John Cena enter, win the match and earn a title shot at WrestleMania 28. The storyline would have then saw Cena be forced to choose between a WWE Title match and the match against The Rock. 

"

This has got to be a joke, right?

I can honestly say that having Cena win the Royal Rumble match and then have to choose whether he wants The Rock or a WWE Championship match would have been one of the worst booking decisions in WWE history. 

WWE officials have to realize how sick we fans of are having Cena shoved down our throats, so why he even got any consideration to actually win the Royal Rumble match in 2012 is beyond me, if the report is true. 

Given Cena’s current “Will he embrace the hate storyline?” with Kane and Zack Ryder and the fact that he’s headed for a WrestleMania match with The Rock, this is the one year that he had absolutely no business winning the Royal Rumble. 

And had he done so, it would have pissed off a lot of wrestling fans. 

The only way that Cena winning the Rumble would have had a worthy payoff was if it somehow led to him turning heel. But we all know that that probably wasn’t happening. 

So I guess the creative team just felt the need to shove Cena down our throats a little more until we choked on him and passed out. 

Either that or those guys are just stupid.
