Michigan Football Recruiting 2012: Top Commitments and Top Remaining Targets

Rob GoldbergJan 30, 2012

After missing on a few high-impact recruits, Michigan fans are left wondering how the 2012 class will turn out.

This week cornerback Armani Reeves committed to Ohio State, while highly-touted offensive guard Joshua Garnett chose Stanford.

Still, Michigan currently has one of the best recruiting classes in the country. There is not a lot of high-end talent, but there are enough four-star recruits to keep the team competitive for years to come.

Here are the top players that are already committed to the Wolverines, as well the players that fans should keep an eye on in the upcoming days.

OT Kyle Kalis

Status: Committed to Michigan

The top recruit for the Wolverines so far this offseason is offensive tackle Kyle Kalis.

Kalis is the only five-star player in the upcoming class, and he could have chosen to play anywhere in the country.

He has great size for the position and could immediately become one of the strongest players in the country next season.

There is no question that Kalis will get plenty of starts in his career at left tackle.

MLB Royce Jenkins-Stone

Status: Committed to Michigan

Royce Jenkins-Stone should make an impact very quickly in Ann Arbor.

According to Scout.com, he is the second-best middle linebacker in the 2012 class.

He is also incredibly athletic for his position and played running back as well in high school.

Michigan needed depth at the position, and now will have a very good player ready to go from day one.

OLB Joe Bolden

Status: Committed to Michigan

Michigan is building a very solid group of linebackers in the latest class. Between Royce Jenkins-Stone, James Ross and Joe Bolden, that position is set for the Wolverines for the next few years.

Bolden is an aggressive outside linebacker with a great motor on every play. He impressed scouts during the Under Armour All-American game by showing off his excellent work ethic.

As these players grow together, they will create a very intimidating group on the defensive side of the field.

OT Jordan Diamond

4 of 6

Status: Considering Michigan, Ohio State, Auburn, Arkansas and Wisconsin

The Wolverines already have a solid offensive tackle prospect in Kyle Kalis, but grabbing Jordan Diamond as well will be a huge boost for the team.

Diamond is a highly-rated recruit who could be a great right tackle in Michigan's run-heavy system.

With the lack of depth currently on the roster, the tackle could see an opportunity to play early in his career at Michigan. It is very likely that affects his final decision.

FB E.J. Fatu

5 of 6

Status: Considering Michigan, Nevada and Utah

This is not a high priority for Michigan, but one for fans to keep an eye on as the recruits start making their decisions.

Fatu is considered the No. 1 fullback in the country by Scout.com and could provide some versatility to the Wolverines offense.

With so few uncommitted players still considering Michigan, the team should work hard to land Fatu.

WR Stefon Diggs

6 of 6

Status: Considering Everyone

There are no less that 10 teams that are still in the running for Stefon Diggs.

He is an incredible athlete that can line up almost anywhere on the field and be successful. But, he has not given people a clue as to where he plans on playing in college.

With so many teams on his list, it is not likely that Michigan will be able to land the receiver. However, he is the type of player that can win games by himself. He will be worth recruiting right until the moment he signs a letter of intent.

Until that point, I do not expect Brady Hoke to back out of the race.
