Peyton Manning Rumors: Tony Dungy Says His Former QB Will Be a Colt or Retire

Richard LangfordMay 31, 2018

Future Hall of Fame QB Peyton Manning is going to be a Colt next season, or he will be retired. At least according to the bombshell dropped by his former coach, Tony Dungy, while on the Pro Bowl pregame show.

Here is Dungy from the pregame of the Pro Bowl, as quoted by Omar Kelly

"I do not think he's going to play for another team. If he's healthy enough he'll play for the Colts. If he's not healthy enough he'll retire."

What This Means

This means that Dungy believes the Colts want to keep Manning around, and if he is going to play he will do so as a Colt.

Obviously, Dungy opinion on this matter carries much more weight than the typical broadcaster. He has close ties to both Manning and the Colts organization.

Still, this seems like nothing but pure conjecture from Dungy, and it runs contrary to the popular belief that the Colts will cut Manning.

In fact, the NFL network's Jason La Canfora reported hearing that the decision to release Manning had been made weeks ago.

Colts owner Jim Irsay refuted that statement, but did nothing to dispel the belief that the Colts would be releasing Manning. Irsay had posted this response on his twitter account.

What's Next

Now we just all wait and see if Peyton Manning can return to health. And that prospect is growing more dim by the second. Again, according to Peter King via Kelly, we get the news that Peyton is having a hard time getting back to full strength.

This news makes it even more unlikely that the Colts will keep Manning on the roster. He is far too expensive to take the risk that he might not be able to play at all.
