NBA Rumors: Chris Kaman to Celtics Has No Chance of Coming True
Boy, that Chris Paul trade sure is working out well for the New Orleans Hornets.
Sure, you can't blame them for Eric Gordon getting injured, but Al-Farouq Aminu has been painfully inconsistent, and Chris Kaman has fallen completely out of the big-man rotation.
Yes, he's lost playing time to guys like Jason Smith and Gustavo Ayon.
But the big seven-footer still has some value, and that's why the Hornets are shopping the man who's days in New Orleans appear to be numbered. According to Rotoworld, the Boston Celtics are interested.
"The Celtics are interested in Chris Kaman, but aren't likely to acquire him unless his contract is bought out."
This would be a solid pickup for the Celtics, as the 29-year-old Kaman would instantly become Boston's youngest player. He would also add some much-needed depth to a frontcourt that has been forced to play Greg Stiemsma on a nightly basis.
Kaman is averaging just nine points and seven rebounds this year, but those are far below his career averages. He also plays tremendous defense and will give you a block-and-a-half per game.
That, and he posts videos like this. After watching this, I am 100 percent certain that having someone like Chris Kaman on your team cannot be a bad thing.
He also enjoys cars, bows and arrows, Diet Coke and Mentos.
Alas, this move is essentially impossible.
Because the Celtics (and the Hornets, for that matter) are over the salary cap, they have to give up a ton of salary to match what they would bring in with Kaman's $14 million salary. The only way Boston could acquire him without having to give up someone like Paul Pierce would be to sign him to a veteran's minimum.
And the only way they can do that is if New Orleans buys him out. But since the Hornets are likely going to shop Kaman around and find a viable suitor, they won't have to buy him out. They aren't at the point where they want to give him up for nothing.
So, unless the Celtics want to trade Paul Pierce for Chris Kaman straight-up (sounds like a trade David Stern would enjoy), Kaman won't be coming to the Celtics.
Too bad, because he is a man's man.
