National Signing Day 2012: Odds of Each Contending School Landing Arik Armstead

Tim KeeneyJan 29, 2012

Stud offensive lineman/defensive lineman/power forward/bocce ball master/croquet king Arik Armstead will be picking his future school today at 3 pm EST. OK, I'm not so sure about his bocce or croquet skills, but it's clear Armstead can do it all.

He will decide between Auburn, Notre Dame, Cal, Washington and Oregon. And whoever wins out will be getting quite the player.

Scout ranks Armstead as the second-best overall prospect, while ESPN has him at No. 24 and Rivals ranks him 61st

Here's a look at the odds of each of the five schools landing the talented 6-foot-8 star.

Auburn Tigers

Last I heard, Armstead's father was having a lot of trouble finding an Auburn hat for the announcement. That's probably not a real good sign for Tiger fans. Auburn is a long way from Sacramento, so this would be a real upset pick.

Still, though, the allure of playing the SEC would entice many youngsters, so don't count the Tigers out just yet. Just don't bank on it.

Odds: 5 Percent

Notre Dame Fighting Irish

Another long shot. Armstead appears intent on going to the Pac-12, but hey, at least there will be a Notre Dame hat.

They are in his final five for a reason, but most believe the Irish aren't really in the running. They have a solid recruiting class so far, so maybe he wants to be a part of that.

Odds: 5 Percent

Oregon Ducks

Now the real contenders. The Ducks can offer Armstead the best shot at a BCS bowl game, and the whole Nike thing is usually pretty important to 18-year-olds.

Oregon's facilities are top notch, and Chip Kelly is staying in town. There's a lot to like here for Armstead, and if he pairs with friend Shaq Thompson, the two could form an insanely good duo for an already insanely good team.

Recent rumors have been pointing to Oregon, but as Joe Davidson, who is MC'ing today's announcement, puts it, rumors are just that.

Odds: 25 Percent

California Golden Bears

Like I mentioned before, there is a lot of talk about Armstad and Shaq Thompson being a packaged deal. That's not a guarantee, but if it happens, Cal stands a pretty good chance.

Thompson recently committed to Cal, and while he has since decommitted, the Bears appear to be a favorite for the safety. That means they are a favorite for Armstead, as well.

The recent coaching changes hurt Cal a bit, but they have been favorites for a long time and remain that way.

Odds: 30 Percent

Washington Huskies

It's just a gut feeling, but I think the Huskies are going to get Armstead. Ever since getting Justin Wilcox from Tennessee and, more importantly, Tosh Lupoi from Cal, Washington has been shooting up every prospect's list.

What's more, Armstead is going to play basketball, and the Dawgs are showing this year with Austin Seferian-Jenkins that Steve Sarkisian will let football players play basketball. With OU, Cal and UW so close, a small detail like that could very well be the deciding factor.

Odds: 35 Percent
