NBA Rumors: Signing Gilbert Arenas Should Be a No-Brainer for LA Lakers
Gilbert Arenas is the missing weapon in the LA Lakers' incomplete arsenal.
Hibachi, aka the DC Sniper, will bring the exact ammo Los Angeles needs as Kobe Bryant and company struggle to lock on to a Western Conference playoff spot. Not only is Arenas a superior talent to Derek Fisher, but he’ll add something to the Lakers that they’re severely lacking right now: selflessness.
What?! Agent zero selfless? Talk about an oxymoron.
But seriously, the only possible way Arenas ends up with the Lakers is if he settles for a vet min contract. Professional basketball players don’t play for minimum money because their wallets are on a diet. A competitor as talented as Arenas only takes a pay cut like that for a single reason: to win a ring.
According to Alex Kennedy of Hoops World, Los Angeles is indeed interested in Arenas.
Sure, he has a quick trigger finger, but with his eyes staring down the prize, Arenas won’t be a ball hog and join the three-way game of tug of war that is the current Lakers offense.
Kobe’s love to shoot the rock is no secret. Andrew Bynum looks like he’s ready to rip a cat's head off every time he calls for the ball and doesn’t get it. And about a week ago, ESPN’s J.A. Adande reported that even Pau Gasol voiced frustration with his lack of low-post touches.
When three players that aren’t willing to sacrifice their numbers for the good of the team are in the same starting lineup, that’s when insanely talented basketball squads start the season 11-9.
While Arenas’ character is questionable, his work ethic is off the charts. He will bring a list of priorities that are in the right order to the Lakers lineup. That, along with a much-needed hunger to a team that looks content with passing on the dessert, could mean a third championship title in four years.
