UFC on FOX 2 Results: Fans Anxiously Await GSP vs Diaz-Condit Winner at UFC 143

UFC on FOX 2 may very well have been the biggest event in the history of mixed martial arts when it comes to expanding the popularity of the sport, but it was rather disappointing in its results.

Now fan attention will be turned to the UFC 143 bout between Nick Diaz and Carlos Condit and the eventual bout between the winner and Georges St-Pierre.

To say that the main card failed to live up to the hype would be somewhat of an understatement. All three fights going to grinding decisions might not be a bad thing for long-time MMA fans who can appreciate a good grappling battle, but for the casual fans who the UFC is trying to attract by putting their product on FOX, this event was kind of a flop.

The slow pace in every fight on FOX was disappointing and will almost certainly not be repeated in the UFC 143 main event between Diaz and Condit. This welterweight bout for the interim UFC welterweight championship is fully expected to be one of the most exciting fights of early-2012 and the winner will get the opportunity to fight the long-time champion of the division, Georges St-Pierre.

Certainly fans are hoping to see the eventual showdown between Diaz and GSP which has been built up for months on end, but if Diaz does fall against Condit, a Condit-GSP matchup would be well worth the price of a pay-per-view as well. 

Either way, UFC 143 will need to be good in order to cleanse the pallet of large number of fans who were disappointed in the lack of finishes at UFC on FOX 2. And Diaz-Condit is just the fight to make everyone forget about Evans-Davis. 

From there, it will be all about promoting the return of arguably the biggest star in the entire sport as St-Pierre makes his return from an ACL injury to fight either Condit or Diaz in what might be the biggest fight of 2012. 

What a year this is turning out to be!
