UFC on FOX 2 Results: Anderson Silva Would Crush Saturday Night's Chael Sonnen
UFC on FOX 2 saw Chael Sonnen victorious over Michael Bisping in a tightly contested decision which will very likely earn him a future rematch against Anderson Silva.
It is now believed that, sometime in 2012, Sonnen and Silva will go head-to-head in what might be the most highly anticipated UFC contest of all-time. However, after having seen Chael Sonnen tonight, it’s becoming increasingly difficult to believe that the rematch isn’t going to be a one-sided beatdown by Anderson Silva.
Sonnen largely dominated the first fight, but was unable to secure the deal as Silva submitted him very late in the fifth round, but those two fighters were at different points in their careers than they are right now.
Anderson Silva has destroyed two top-level opponents in Yushin Okami and Vitor Belfort since he beat Chael Sonnen. While Chael Sonnen himself owns two victories over top-10 opponents himself, Saturday night’s victory over Bisping just wasn’t all that impressive.
Sonnen was out-struck and even found himself pushed up against the fence for quite awhile against an opponent who is very good, but he’s not Anderson Silva good.
Then again, Chael maintains that he doesn’t actually believe this fight is going to happen.
"Do I think that he'll sign to fight? No, I don't," he said in the post-fight press conference on UFC.com. “They've tried to get him to fight [me] four times.”
If the fight does happen, Sonnen's going to need to be better than he was on Saturday night.
"Michael Bisping hit me so hard, I didn't even know what day it was," Sonnen said in the post-fight press conference on UFC.com. “I was never in a position tonight where I was comfortable."
If that’s the case, then just wait until he gets hit by the UFC middleweight champion.
Although Sonnen walked out with a victory over Bisping, he’s going to need to be better than he was if he wants to compete again with Anderson Silva. “The Spider” won’t be injured going into this one and if the Chael Sonnen from January 28, 2012 shows up against Anderson Silva in the rematch, it’s not going to be pretty.
