Super Bowl 2012: New York Giants Will Cap off Magical Season with Victory

Justin WeltonJun 7, 2018

The winner of Super Bowl XLVI will have had a great passing attack, lousy rushing attack and horrible defense during the regular season no matter who comes out on top.

It’s been a different story in the postseason, however. Both defenses have played very well.

The biggest difference between the New York Giants' and New England Patriots' defense is who they defeated to get where they are now. That’s why you can trust the Giants' defense a little more than the Patriots', and that's why they will win the Super Bowl.

New York lost five of six late in the season yet made the playoffs and are making noise. Their defense rose to occasion to help aid the offense.

It continued into the 2012 NFL Playoffs.

When you can limit Aaron Rodgers to 264 yards and two touchdowns, you know you are doing something special. It also looks much better than what it actually was because he and the Packers scored late.

They gave up 20 points to the great Green Bay Packers' offense on the road in the Divisional Round. That proves just what level they are playing at.

New England defeated a limited Tim Tebow-led Denver Broncos team before the Baltimore Ravens last weekend. The Ravens nearly had 400 yards total (398) with Joe Flacco’s 306-yard performance. Yes, the same guy who was ridiculed for not being able to play at a high level in the biggest games. The worst part is that the Ravens would have won if Lee Evans had caught the game-winning touchdown.

If you do a simple eye-check, the Giants have the better team with the better defense. Whether or not that means anything in the end will be determined next Sunday, but I would like to think that the best team will come out on top.

That is the Giants.

Brady shows tiny hints of struggling when you can get at his feet. He hurries the ball, can throw errant passes and looks a little thrown off.

The Giants recorded 48 sacks on the season; they have nine sacks and 19 quarterback hits in the postseason. There is no question that their front four will be able to make Brady uncomfortable in the pocket.

If they can get to Brady, which I think they will, the Patriots are in major trouble. It’s Brady or bust, and if he struggles, expect the Patriots to be in for a tremendous struggle.

New York will win the Super Bowl because of their defense and Super Bowl MVP Eli Manning, no longer just Peyton’s little brother.

Prediction: Giants 28, Patriots 27
