Victoria Azarenka Credits Boyfriend for Success in Australian Open 2012 Victory
Victoria Azarenka stood in the spotlight of her 2012 Australian Open championship and quickly broke the hearts of admirers everywhere as she managed to slip in the fact that she was taken.
The 22-year-old Azarenka beat Maria Sharapova 6-3 6-0 in the finals to win her first ever major title. After what has to be the loudest tennis match ever played, the new champion told fans that winning was a "dream come true."
Valkerie Baynes of the Courier Mail quoted her post-match comments. As you can see, she wasted no time slipping in the fact she has a boyfriend.
"I would like to thank my team—you guys have been supporting me for so long and believing in me, and it made me realise that I can believe in myself and I can finally raise this trophy.
"
I want to thank my parents, who are watching for sure now, my friends, my boyfriend and my grandmother, the person who inspires me the most in my life.
The Boyfriend
It was probably wise for Azarenka to thank her boyfriend because he is probably incredibly jealous of her recent accomplishment. That is because he is also a professional tennis player.
Sergei Bubka is the boyfriend in question, and he is a lightly accomplished pro. He has just a 12-7 record. The 24-year-old is certainly not without talent, though, and he has one of the most explosive serves on the tour.
Bubka's serve has been clocked as high as 157 MPH.
While Bubka will now have to adjust to being in the shadow of a loved one, that is something he is uniquely qualified to handle.
His father is legendary pole vaulter Sergey Bubka.
If Azarenka keeps winning like this, Sergei will be as famous for being her boyfriend as he is for being Sergey's son.
