Carlos Tevez Set to Stay at Manchester City as AC Milan Deal Falls Through

Will TideyJun 3, 2018

The Carlos Tevez transfer saga appears to be over for the January window, after AC Milan failed to agree a deal with the Manchester City striker.

Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani said the Tevez situation would be settled either way by 7pm on Friday night. Shortly after the deadline passed, Milan completed a deal for Catania forward Maxi Lopez, seemingly ruling out a move for Tevez before Tuesday's deadline day.

"At 1830 I was convinced we were very close to sealing the Tevez deal," Galliani said. "I did my best, it was a day where I had my heart in my mouth, but no more could be done. We had everything set for Tevez to come, but the situation changed.

"Today was still very important because we have solved some misunderstandings of recent days with City, relations are much improved. But, patience - life goes on. The market will reopen in four months - we'll see."

Earlier on Friday, Tevez's agent Kia Joorabchian went on Talksport radio to talk about his client's situation. Here's what Joorabchian had to say:

"

"We've been in negotiations with three big clubs but I don't think they have reached the figures Manchester City want. Carlos will remain at Man City until the summer. They (City) would like to move him on but only at a certain price.

"This summer will open up a lot of markets. All of the big clubs are looking for players who can play in the Champions League.

"Carlos Tevez is cup-tied and that creates a big obstacle. You're spending a lot of money on the transfer and the salary and he can't play Champions League.

"You have three-and-a-half months and then you can restructure your team, and buy Carlos, in the summer."

"

The other two clubs in the equation were Inter Milan and Paris Saint-Germain, but it seems both fell short of the asking price Manchester City were after.

Barring a dramatic late move, it now seems likely Tevez will spend the remainder of the season at Manchester City, for whom he has not played since November. The Argentine's relationship with City manager Roberto Mancini will need some serious work if Tevez is to get back on the pitch for the Premier League leaders.

Tevez fell out with Mancini after allegedly refusing to come off the bench in a Champions League tie away to Bayern Munich. Since November he has been holed up in Argentina, without City's permission.
